Durango DEX210 2wd buggy prototype

Durango DEX210 2wd buggy prototype

Durango have taken the covers of their new 2wd prototype buggy, the DEX210, which will be raced at the “Petit” event in Kent this weekend. The thinking behind the DEX210 is to be the first car where mid & rear motor mounting is possible from the same car, ensuring Durango owners can be have the ideal layout whatever the track. Private testing has already been carried out with various gearbox configurations & motor locations, but as always Durango like to test properly before finalising the design so off to the Petit race Gerd goes with his hand made car.

Durango DNX408 – First production parts

Durango DNX408 - First production parts

Eager to obtain the services of Austrian driver Hupo Honigl, Durango have released the first images of the production parts from their new 1/8th scale buggy, the DNX408. We have yet to see the final design of the car but judging by the photos of the first parts to come of the (pre)production line that are destined for this new car, it would be safe to assume that this will be a high quality buggy just like its little brother the DEX410.

UPDATED with CAD images of the car (as always click for larger image)

Durango desperately seeking Hupo

Durango desperately seeking Hupo

Team Durango have taken a rather unconventional approach to gain the services of multiple European Champion Hupo Honigl, by posting on their official blog stating that they are “actively trying to attract Hupo Honigl back to Team Durango”. Pointing out that the Austrian has previously driven for the Durango team back in 2006, when he used one of the then handmade chassis’, they feel that they had to take this approach in the face of ‘mega bucks RTR companies’ also trying to secure his services. Durango want to have the current Tamiya and LRP team driver at the controls of their DEX410 1/10th scale 4wd buggy and soon to be released DNX408 1/8th scale buggy and believe that together they can grow to expand into other classes including the design and production of a 2wd buggy chassis. We contacted the current European 2wd Champion to get his reaction:

It would be great to race for Durango again and I did enjoy working with Gerd Strenge in the past, but I have some contracts still in place and I can’t make any decisions on my future until the time is right.

Durango Japan in search of the right stuff

Durango Japan in search of the right stuff

Durango have been in touch to tell us that their Japanese distributor Tresrey is going to hold an off-road race on January 24, 2010. This race will be an ‘Audition’ to choose a new Team Durango Japan support driver for the 2010 season. The top 3 drivers from each class and selected others will get an interview from Tresrey, following which they will choose one driver to be their Team Durango Japan support driver for the 2010 racing season. The chosen racer will get a DEX410 from Team Durango Ltd, and Tresrey will support them with spare and option parts for the next 12 months and they can also work and pit with the main team at big races such as the Japanese nationals and Reedy race at the world famous Yatabe Arena. The top 3 drivers for both classes will also receive prizes from SpeedPassion.

East Coast Bodies DEX410 shell

East Coast Bodies DEX410 shell

East Coast Bodies have released their latest shell, this time for the Durango DEX410, which they claim is an improvement in design over the original. The addition of the supplied front wing helps keep the front end on the ground when under power, while at the rear of the re-profiled main cockpit a kick up in front of the wing improves the jumping by making it more controllable in the air. The rear wing has also had some work with the bottom side featuring 3 new channels for air flow which again helps the car in high speed jumps.

The Team Durango history

The Team Durango history

Further to our review of the new Team Durango DEX410 buggy we brought to you last week, here’s an insight into the history of one of the most innovative electric buggies to date. Those of you who have a certain interest in the 1/10 electric off-road class will of course know the names ‘Durango’ and ‘Gerd Strenge’ for some time now. Since the end of the 1990’s Gerd is designing and manufacturing electric, and nowadays nitro, off-road buggies.

Vorsprung durch Technik – Durango DEX410

Vorsprung durch Technik - Durango DEX410

Team Durango’s DEX410 is possibly the most anticipated electric 4WD buggy of all times! We think this is not a exaggeration as the handmade prototypes (designed and build by German racer Gerd Strenge) are around for many years now but only made it into the hands of some selected team drivers like Jörn Neumann, Billy Easton, Atsushi Hara, Craig Drescher or Mark Pavidis to name just a few. Now ‘The Durango’ is available for everyone thanks to Gerd Strenge and his designer Michael Vollmer who made the impossible possible and took the challenge to create ‘a Durango’ for the mass market. We got our hands on one of the very first kits of this exciting new buggy.
