Wood makes it BRCA 3 from 3 at Halifax

Tim Wood made it three from three in the British 1:8 Onroad National Championship, the Shepherd driver taking the TQ and win at Halifax last weekend. Already a winner at Cotswold and Wombwell, Wood would set a blistering pace in qualifying setting a new track record as he put his Hasi Tuned powered Velox V8.2 on pole for the A-final. Behind Capricorn’s Andrew Hastings would line up second with the ARC of Niall Cochran 3rd. In the 30-minute final that order would remain unchanged as Wood took a convincing win from the front. With latest BRCA encounter attracting the biggest field thus far of the season with 47 drivers in attendance, there would be position change for fourth with Jason Frost finding a way passed 4th place qualifier Richard Hicklin. Round 4 of the 6 round championship will take racers to the Adur circuit on July 22-23.

David Spashett’s Zen Racing takes over Shepherd

Multiple 1:12 World Champion David Spashett, through his company Zen Racing, has taken over Onroad nitro manufacturer Shepherd and its associated brand Brilliant RC. Wood leads Velox 1-2 at British Nationals

A hot and sunny Wombwell Circuit welcomed Round 2 of the British 1:8 Onroad Nationals where Tim Wood would lead a 1-2 for the Shepherd Velox. Attracting the highest entry of drivers seen for a long time, qualifying at the super-fast and technical track would see Round 1 winner Wood with his Hasi Tuned powered Velox secure the TQ closely followed team-mate John Carr and the Capricorn of Andrew Hastings. In the 30-minute A Final, Wood led from the start to make it 2 from 2 and extend his lead in the championship with fourth place qualifier Karl Dransfield having a great drive to second for a Zen-Shepherd Race team 1-2. Sam Snell would complete the podium ahead of John Carr who was to have some minor issues during the race. Next month’s third round will take drivers to the Halifax circuit.

Shepherd to cease business

Onroad nitro stalwarts Shepherd has made the sad announced that it is to cease business at the end of June. The German based manufacturer was a pivotal brand in the racing scene and was also a great supporter of racing with CEO Patrick Schafer, a accomplished racer himself, one of those who played a major role in the establishment of the Euro Nitro Series. That support helped the ENS grow into a major Worldwide series that attracted drivers from around the globe really raising the profile and interest in the category during its peak years. Shepherd Micro Racing was originally set-up by Patrick’s father Werner, who loved his racing and being track side, but since his passing the ‘fire of passion’ in the company has dwindled and following 15-years as CEO Patrick is making the difficult decision to stop the business. That said they are in talks with several interested parties about keeping the Shepherd legacy alive. Having had the pleasure of working with Patrick and his father over the years, visited their factory, and enjoyed the height of the Kurbuch/Shepherd era, Red RC would like to thank Patrick for all he did for nitro onroad racing and wish him well in his new projects. Wood wins British 1:8 Onroad Nationals opener

Tim Wood has won the opening round of the 2023 BRCA British 1:8 Onroad National Championships. Hosted by the Cotswold Model Car Club over the weekend, the first encounter of the 6 round championship would see the Team Shepherd driver top all four rounds of qualifying but it was his run in Q3 that secured him the TQ honours. Behind, Andrew Hastings would line-up second with his Capricorn after he posted his fastest time in Q2. John Carr completed the Top 3 posting his quickest run in the penultimate qualifier. In the 30-minute final it would be a repeat of last year’s penultimate round visit to the Cotswolds track, as Wood secured a comfortable win with his Hasi Tuned powered Velox V8.2s. Hastings would finish second while the Serpent of Matthieu Dambrine, fifth fastest in qualifying, completed the podium as Carr retired after 8-minutes.

Shepherd High Traction Radioplate

Shepherd have released an optional High Traction radioplate for their Velox V8.2 1:8 nitro onroad chassis. The extra stiff radioplate is milled from premium carbon fibre and increases the stiffness at the front of the car. Especially at tracks with ultra high traction, the radioplate helps to make the car easier to drive.

Shepherd Velox V8.2 rear suspension optionals

German nitro onroad manufacturer Team Shepherd has introduced some new options parts for the Shepherd Velox V8.2 rear suspension. The new aluminium parts make it possible to use the eccentric inserts from the front of the car to adjust the position of the rear upper wishbone pin as needed. The upper/outer position is the same as the upper position of the standard parts while the inner ones increase the length of the upper arm. The set comes with all necessary hardware.
