Round 3 of the Short Course Showdown made it’s way to Trackside Hobbies located in Brookfield Wisconsin. The new track layout had been down for a week or so. The track was wet and still holding a lot of moisture due to the fact that the outside weather was cold and wet for the last few weeks. On Thursday Drivers started to arrive and get their pit spaces picked out and setting up camp for the weekend.

Last week end a RedBull GP was held at a Hobby Expo in Moscow Russia. There were over 200 entries all together in a race that covered all the electric offroad classes. This was the debut of the production JQ Electric 1:8th Buggy. There were three JQeCars at the event, and all three made the main, JQ, Dmitry Malyshko and Timo Jalas. The racetrack threw some curve balls to certain drivers with two jumps that crossed over the diagonal main straight. Tricky to jump, and marshall. In the end Joseph Quagraine would take the win ahead of Serpent driver Jörg Tiit in the 2nd with JQ driver Dmitry Malyshko completing the podium in 3rd.

The Xray Challenge Greece was held last weekend at the FRT track outside of Athens and this report is by Alexander Hagberg. ‘The track is huge by its size, comparable to the famous Lostallo track in Switzerland. It has been the host of numerous EFRA European Championship events in the past, so the quality of the track is very good. This time, the race featured the 1/10 GP and 1/10 EP Modified classes. A total entry count of around 50 had joined the event which was held over one day. The weather was sunny and reaching well over 20 degrees C, which meant perfect racing conditions.

Mustit RC Raceway played host to the JConcepts Challenge final event last weekend and it was the biggest so far this year, and a good ending for the winter with a new record in the Short Course 4×4 class 38 cars taking part. The 4wd buggy event saw many hard fights and the fight between Lars Erik Mo and Daniel Kobbevik was tense, they were so much faster than rest off the field, switching possisions all the time. In most of the races it has been Lars Erik Mo winning A-main 1, Daniel A-main 2 and then again Lars Erik taking A-main 3. This time the same happened and final 3 was open, Daniel was actually leading until the last round. Lars Erik pushed his Kyosho all he could and was like 10cm behind all the time and it looked like this time it could be a change, but a pin from the center cvd in the B44.2 came out and 40 meters from the finish line the car stopped. So Lars Erik took the win this time also. Lars Erik has been the most winning driver in 4wd this winter.

Round 3 of the inaugural season of the RaceWorks Elite Racing Series was held on 21 April 2013 at RaceWorks’ onroad circuit in Singapore. Fashioned after F1, the series features 5 ‘manufacturer’ teams of 2 drivers each competing for the overall drivers’ and team championship in the 7-race season. With rain disrupting the race, the overall results were based on the only qualifying run that was completed. TITC 2013 champion, Nicholas Lee (Team Tamiya SG) finished first, while teammate Alvin Koh took third spot. Team HB/HPI’s Allister Lim was second for his first podium finish of the season. After finishing on the podium in all 3 rounds so far, Alvin Koh leads the drivers’ standings ahead of PY Tang (Team Xray Singapore). The double podium finish of Team Tamiya SG’s drivers in Round 3 would see the team leap-frog Team Xray Singapore to take over the lead in the team standings. The teams look forward to “locking horns” again when the series resumes on 5 May for Round 4 of the season.

The Cotswold RC track in the UK saw the unofficial BTCC season opening race and it was Team Durango’s newly signed Elliott Harper who took the TQ honours with the company’s DETC410 touring car prototype. Elliott was able to TQ every qualifying round and also posted the fasted lap ever at the Cotswold track. The young Brit then went on to sweep the A finals and took the race win in front of Schumacher’s Chris Grainger and Olly Jeffries (Team Associated).

The first race of the 2013 Belgian championship took place at the Lovan racing track in Zarren. The indoor track featured many technical areas and a fast layout. Defending champion Olivier Bultynck took TQ with his new VBC Racing Wildfire in front of Thomas Stockman and Nick Joosens. Gerrit van Swijgenhoven took a very good fourth on the grid. The first final saw a very close battle between Olivier and Thomas. Nick was just behind in third place. Olivier made no mistake and Thomas chased him hard but Olivier was able to open a gap and took the win. Thomas came in second in front of Nick and Gerrit. The second final again saw a win of Olivier after Thomas made a mistake in lap six. Meanwhile Nick climbed up to second place and encountered a lot of pressure from Thomas. The latter than touched the second placed but waited until Nick recovered. For the remainder of the final Nick was able to stay in second place with Thomas taking third place. Gerrit managed to take fourth in front of Manuel Henriet. The third final would be the decider for second place. Olivier also raced the last final as he wanted to learn his new car better. Olivier again took off and grabbed the win with the fastest time of the day. Thomas again was very fast and secured a second place. Nick came in third with Gerrit in fourth just in front of Manuel. The overall result saw Olivier Bultynck (VBC racing) taking the win with Thomas Stockman (Xray) in secede and Nick Joosens (Yokomo) in third.

Naoto Matsukura scored a double victory at the recent off-road race held at the RC Park Gojo in Japan. The 1/12th on-road World Champion secured the 2WD title in Yusuke Sugiura (Kyosho) and Kohta Akimoto (Kyosho). The 4WD class saw an identical result with Naoto (Yokomo) taking the overall win followed by Yusuke and Kohta.
