Elliot Harper dominates RugRacers Rd1

Elliot Harper dominates RugRacers Rd1

The first round of this year’s Muchmore Racing UK RugRacers took place this weekend and the racers were greeted by a track which was flowing, yet technical in places, rewarding drivers with accurate consistent driving. A new control tyre and additive was implemented for this year and both seem popular with all the drivers with Sweep 32 EXP combo working better the more it is used. The majority of drivers found they went faster the older the tyres were, which is always a good sign for a long lasting tyre, which is one reason it was chosen for the championship. Congratulations go to Elliott Harper taking victory over Chris Kerswell and David Bowen. Ultimately Elliott ended up dominating the day with his new Xray T3 and took TQ by 1.6 seconds over Chris Kerswell and David Bowen, but went on to win all 3 finals comfortably. In TC3 Malc Hall took the win from Philip Randall and Azman Sulaiman. Malc Took TQ over Phil “the power” Randall by roughly 3 seconds and was the only driver to reach 25 laps.

Capacity entry for Xenon Racing Euro Touring Series opener

Capacity entry for Xenon Racing Euro Touring Series opener

The third season of the Euro Touring Series kicks off this weekend when a capacity entry from 17 different countries will descend on the town of Kastellaun in Germany for the opening leg of an expanded six round 2009/10 race program. Welcoming a new title sponsor in Xenon Racing Products, who also become the official controlled tyre supplier of the series, the growing popularity of the ETS is reflected in the star line-up that will battle it out for this season’s title honours. Due to his recent relocation to Asia, defending champion Jilles Groskamp will not be going for a hat trick of titles. Despite his absence the title battle, which ended in a tie break last season between Groskamp and current World Champion Marc Rheinard, is expected to be even more closely fought than ever with many of electric touring car’s biggest names entered for Round 1.

Martin Achter is Double World Champion

Martin Achter is Double World Champion

Following the 2wd World Championship that took place earlier in the week in South Africa, the 4wd Championship got underway later in the week and again had a poor turnout, only attracting 20 drivers. Winner of the 2wd title, Martin Achter, driving the Durango DEX410, took the TQ spot with 3 wins in qualifying to line up easily ahead of Gerrit Houws and Brandon Joynt. In the first A-main, Martin simply checked out, while carnage behind helped him extend his lead to take a comfortable win in front of another Durango racer Jaco van Eerden in 2nd and Brandon Joynt 3rd with a Kyosho. Leg 2 saw more of the same from Martin and he took the win to secure his 2nd World title in a week, while Brandon Joynt took 2nd ahead of Hot Bodies racer Craig Loughton in 3rd. With the title already won Achter decided to sit out the 3rd leg and this allowed Gerrit Gouws to take the win despite big pressure from Craig Loughton who took 2nd, while Guilherme De Sousa, driving an Associated took 3rd. The overall positions saw Martin Achter crowned World Champion with Gerrit Gouws in 2nd and Craig Laughton in 3rd overall.

Paul Lemieux wins ROAR Paved Nats

Paul Lemieux wins ROAR Paved Nats

This year’s ROAR Paved Nationals was held last weekend in Frederick Maryland at the HobbyTown USA, also known as the Coliseum. Qualifying for the touring car race saw Paul Lemiuex take the top spot in Modified, while his Xray team mates Robbie Dodge and Mike Herald Jr took TQ in both the Super Stock and Stock classes respectively. In the finals it was a pretty straight forward affair with Paul winning the first 2 A-mains unchallenged to take the National title ahead of Josh Cyrul and Keven Herbert. It was a similar affair in the other 2 classes, with both TQ men getting it done in the first 2 mains to each secure their respective National titles with Robbie Dodge winning Super Stock from Josh Cyrul and Keven Herbert again, while in Stock Mike Herald Jr won ahead of Austin Vacek and Dave Bowser.

Proline Dirt Arena Winter Series Rd1

Proline Dirt Arena Winter Series Rd1

The Proline Dirt Arena kicked off it’s new Winter Series in style last weekend with some top name drivers and some very competitive racing. Smiley faces all round as all that turned up liked the recent changes to the facility after opening about 7 months ago. In 2wd, Team Associated driver Tony Truman took pole in the A final with three 1’s in qualifying. Richard Barton would take TQ in the second round and he would line up 2nd on the grid with Simon Willetts in 3rd. Simon took the 1st leg of the 3 legged A final but it would be TQ man Tony Truman who would take legs 2 and 3 to secure a well deserved victory. 4WD would see a almost perfect domination from Jon Dell running his Associated B44 taking all 4 rounds of qualifying to put himself on pole. In leg 1 of the A final he would have a wheel fall of and Rob Rasey would come through to take the win. Legs 2 and 3 Jon Kept it together as well as his car, to take comfortable win and transfer his TQ to a win.
