 R1GP IIC 2008 - Announcement

The 2nd annual R1 Grand Prix Indoor International Championship will take place in 2008 on January the 19th – 20th. The event will be held in Seoul, South Korea at the Best Western Airport Hotel and many international racers from various different countries are expected to participate. This year, Scotty Ernst will announce for the race, and the organisers expect attendance from Atsushi Hara, Adachi Shin, and other international racers.

LRP Touring Car Masters - Announcement

LRP electronic have announced the date for the 11th annual LRP Touring Car Masters, which will be held from March 28th to 30th 2008 in Eppelheim (Heidelberg/Germany). The LRP-TCM is regarded as the most competitive Touring Car race worldwide apart from the IFMAR World-Championships nowadays. 270 drivers including international topstars from Europe, the USA and Japan will make this the unofficial Indoor World’s in 2008. Past events saw World Champions David Spashett, Surikarn Chaidajsuriya, Atsushi Hara, Mark Pavidis, Matt Francis, Brian Kinwald, Jukka Steenari, Marc Rheinard, Andy Moore and Masami Hirosaka fighting for the glory. Europe’s top guns will compete against contenders from all around the world, don’t miss this exciting battle.

 Drescher wins CML Carpet Masters Rd2

The 2nd round of the CML Carpet Masters series was run at the Stafford club last weekend and it saw another dominant performance from Associated’s Craig Drescher. Craig piloted his TC5 to victory in the 2 finals after taking the TQ from new team mate Andrew Robson in 2nd and Junior Yokomo driver Ryan Edwards in 3rd. In the first round of finals, the top 3 maintained their qualifying order with Craig taking the win from Andy and Ryan. The 2nd round of finals saw a very close finish with Craig just hanging on to take the victory from Andy with Alan Bickerstaff in 3rd. In the 27/13.5 class, the first final win went to Jake Williams in a close race with Nick Turner and Mark Poulton, while in final 2 it was Nick Turner that took the victory with a storming drive, to claim the overall win.

Zack Barry wins US Micro On-Road Nats

Xray have a report on the first ever 1/18th Scale US On-road Nationals, held last week at RC Madness in Enfield, CT, with numerous classes present including Micro Sedan, Pan car, Recoil (1/14th), Rally, and Open Truck. Zack Barry was present with the new M18T Pro and after qualifying for the Open Truck class he lined up 2nd, despite running the fastest lap times. At the start of the main final Zack quickly got by the leader but had a bobble shortly after that, allowing 3rd place driver Tony Phalen to get by. Now running in 2nd place, Zack followed Tony for several laps, slowly closing the gap. When Tony’s truck “thermalled out” Zack took the lead and with it the win, followed home by John Cravotta in 2nd and Dillon Spinelli in 3rd.

Matsukura & Suki take JMRCA buggy titles

This weekend saw the indoor Yatabe Arena once more play host to the Japanese Nationals, this time for electric off road buggies, with the event open to both 2wd and 4wd classes. In 4wd it was Yokomo racer, and current 12th scale National Champion, Naoto Matsukura that took the TQ spot ahead of current 2wd World Champion Hayato Matsuzaki, racing for Hot Bodies in 2nd and Shin Adachi for Kyosho in 3rd. In 2wd qualifying it was Hiroshi Suzuki that took pole position in front of Akira Suzuki in 2nd and Hayato Matsuzaki in 3rd. The 4wd final saw complete domination for the young Matsukura who took wins in the first 2 finals, the second final seeing a winning margin of 12 seconds, to take the overall title ahead of Hayato Matsuzaki, who won the 3rd final, while Yokomo racer Hiroshi Suzuki took 3rd. In the 2wd finals Yokomo team driver Hiroshi Suzuki took 2 clear wins in the first 2 finals to secure his 2wd title, ahead of Tamiya racer Satoshi Maezumi in 2nd, who took the last final win, while Hayato Matsuzaki wrapped up a great day with 3rd overall.

Hagberg wins Swedish Friendship race

Alexander Hagberg wins Swedish Friendship race

Xray have a report by Martin Hudy from the International Swedish Friendship race that took place last weekend in Enskilstunda, approximately 130km from Stockholm, the capital city of Sweden. A lot of top drivers from around Europe attended this race and in qualifying it was local ace Alexander Hagberg racing for Xray that took the pole position from Prague GP winner Steen Graversen for Kyosho in 2nd with Martin Hudy for Xray in 3rd. The first final was won by Graversen followed by Hudy in 2nd after Hagberg made a mistake while in the lead. Final 2 saw Hagberg return from a bad first final to take the win in front of Graversen with Martin once more in 3rd. The last and decisive final saw Hagberg win once more to claim the overall win, after a coming together between Martin and Steen allowed the Swedish driver to go into the lead, Martin closed but couldn’t get passed and so Graversen claimed 2nd overall with Hudy on the final podium step in 3rd.

The 2008 Snowbird Nationals entry form is now live, and over 50 entries were received the first 5 minutes the form was up. It is so easy to register, you can sign up and pay on-line. The largest R/C race in the world comes to Orlando, Florida January 29th through to February 3rd, with carpet on-road and carpet oval racing action. Tosolini & Burch take Mod in Cleveland

Last weekend saw the 28th annual US Indoor Champs take place at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Independence, Ohio with the event open to both Touring car and 1/12th scale classes. In TC Mod it was pole man Ralph Burch, racing for Xray, that made the best start and was able to pull out a gap and cruise to the win in front of Kyosho racer Josh Cyrul in 2nd and another Xray, that of Paul LeMieux in 3rd. In the 1/12th scale Mod class it was top qualifier Mike Blackstock that jumped into the lead at the start of the race and lead until some trouble with traffic took him out leaving Corally driver Chris Tosolini to take the lead and eventually the win in front of LeMieux in 2nd and Cyrul in 3rd.
