The Vienna Off road Winter Champs were run last weekend by RC Carpet Fun at the Arena Nova in Vienna and the event attracted 117 racers over 4 classes, 2wd, 4wd, truck and 1/18th buggy. In the 4wd class it was multiple European Champion and Tamiya team driver Hupo Honigl that took the top qualifier spot with his new 511X. In the race, the Austrian had an easy leg 1 win, but finished 2nd in leg 2 to setup a last leg battle between himself and Peter Pinisch, but Honigl was able to come through to win the final leg and overall title, with Pinisch taking the runner up spot, while German racer Bernhard Bachmann took 3rd overall. In 2wd it was a clean sheet for Rene Trauner who took the TQ spot and then won the first two A-mains to secure the overall with one leg left to run. Hupo took the win in the 3rd leg, but 2 bad runs in leg 1 and 2 meant he was out of contention and so Roli Hauleitner took 2nd and Peter Pinisch 3rd. The truck class was won by Roli Hauleitner, with Kreil Martin 2nd  and Peter Wirthner 3rd, while in the 1/18th class Hupo Honigl won from Oli Holczer in 2nd and Andreas Knott 3rd.

Team Mirage win 2009 EBOR 24hr race

Our friends at oOple are reporting that Team Mirage / HPI won at the 2009 EBOR 24 hour race held at the York Off Road Car Club over the weekend. The grueling 24 hours of solid racing took their toll on the competitors but all teams finished with HPI out front after a bad start. The Asoociate Team snatched second by just 3 laps after a battle with the unlucky Nor-Trak-Macher-Tech team who themselves had led the race for a long time.

Rheinard & Honigl take European Indoor crowns

Rheinard & Honigl take European Indoor crowns

The finals for the first European Indoor Championships took place today in Turino, Italy today and there were some very familiar faces on the top of the podium following 3 intense legs of racing. Run alongside the 1/12th scale finals, the Touring car A-mains took place earlier in the round and so the Champion for this class was to be decided first. At the start of the first TC A-main leg, it was Marc Rheinard that crossed the starting line first, following a very early collision with the barriers by both, pole man Jilles Groskamp and 2nd placed starter Alexander Hagberg that allowed the DHI Cup Champion through. Once up front Marc didn’t offer any chance to get passed and crossed the finish line first, followed by team mates Viktor Wilck and Jilles Groskamp.

F1 RCGP Round 1 report

F1 RCGP Round 1 report

Formula 1 racing is big again in Japan and so top Japanese racer Hideo Kitizawa organised a 10 round Championship for the class called F1 RCGP. The first round took place last weekend at the Nexter Circuit in Fukuoka and the drivers were greeted with snow, which actually prevented a lot of the racers getting to the track so instead of the 68 racers that had booked in, only 37 made it to the circuit. The series open to 2 classes, one with Mabuchi 540 (F1) motors and one with 30T motors (F1 GP), wile both classes use the control Zen F1 foam tire. Qualifying was held over 4 minute runs with the finals made up of 8 minutes and only the F1 GP class would be counting towards the final standings, with 5 from the 10 rounds counting. In the F1GP class it was Daiyu Kobayashi, who started from 2nd on the grid, who managed to cope with the wet conditions best to beat the pole man, and former Japanese 1:10 2wd buggy champion, Shinya Kimura to become the winner of the 1st round of the F1 RCGP race. Shimonabe Jyunichi took 2nd while Shinya Kimura dropped back to third by the end of the race.

Tommy Bergfeldt takes MSEC Rd3

We received a report from the third round of the MSEC 08-09, held in Eskilstuna on the same layout as the Friendship race last December. DHI Cup winner Tommy Bergfeldt took TQ in Modified and won all of the triple A-mains, finishing ahead of Edwin Sunesson, who was the only driver who could reach Tommy in the finals. In Stock it was young Markus Elmerfors that took the TQ and went on to win all A-mains, impressive as usual to see Markus drive even under the hardest of pressure. The 1:12th scale saw an even race between Mackan Göransson, Magnus Hedlund and Maxx Rosén and a few more with Mackan G took a surprising win. Per-Erik Nordman was the one to beat in offroad, with very steady driving he won the first 2 finals.
