BRCA GT Nationals Rd1 – Report

BRCA GT Nationals Rd1 – Report

The 2016/17 BRCA GT Nationals got under way last weekend at a new addition to the calendar, the event was hosted by Barley Mow RC Car Club in Birtley just outside Newcastle. Like last year the the event was split into two days with GT10 and F1 on Saturday and GT12 on Sunday. The club laid a great track for the weekends action, praised by many drivers over the weekend, it had a good mix of corners from fast and flowing to tight and technical. Onto the racing, Saturday started with the GT10 class. It was Andy Murray who set the pace. He was closely followed by young Ollie Payne driving the Roche P10. As the day progressed grip levels improved and the times got better and better. Andy Murray would continue to top the results board being the fastest in all four rounds of qualifying. Ollie Payne challenged Andy in all the rounds but just lacked a little consistency, he would line up second, followed by Mark Christopher with his Xray, Craig Nutting was in the fourth spot with his Roche less than two tenths from third. Bob Hill completing the top 5 with his CRC.

IFMAR introduce controlled tyre and SPEC class for 1/12 Worlds

IFMAR introduce controlled tyre and SPEC class for 1/12 Worlds

Alongside the running of the 1:8 Offroad World Championships in Las Vegas this week, the World governing body IFMAR has been holding its AGM. Along with confirming what has been widely known for some time that Perth, Australia, will be the venue for the next 1:8 Offroad Worlds in 2-years time, more interesting developments from the meeting relate to the next Electric Onroad Worlds and the 1:12th scale class. With the recent running of electric’s longest running class attracting another small entry as it did 2-years earlier in the United States, IFMAR are hoping to make the event more viable by introducing a number of changes including controlled tyres, a blinky mode 13.5 Spec Class as well as a Formula class, although the latter is stated as being ‘under investigation’ and subject to a ‘POSTAL Vote’.

Malin Karlsen wins OMK Fall Classic Rd5

Malin Karlsen win OMK Fall Classic Rd5

Round five of the OMK Fall Classic 2WD race series was hosted by the Oslo R/C Car Club and the event saw Xray’s Malin Karlsen making a clean sweep in the three qualifiers to take the pole position for the triple A-mains. The opening final had Malin leading from tone to tone but in the second leg she lost two positions after getting in contact with the track markers. From third she was able to catch up, pass the cars in front and take over the lead again. From that moment on she never looked back to take the win in A2 and with it the overall victory. To get as much track time as possible Malin decided to also run the third A-main and again she would end the race in dominant fashion, taking the third win of the evening. Behind her, Morten Bremsrud (Team Associated) and Steffen Larsen (Yokomo) had to settle for second and third overall.

Serpent have announced the addition of Norway’s Daniel Kobbevik to their 1/8th off-road team. An EOS A-main finisher and national frontrunner, Daniel is a 1/10th scale specialist but he will now further up his game in the challenging 1/8th buggy class. He will be working closely with his fellow Serpent drivers Shin Adachi, Billy Easton, Jörn Neumann as well as Gerd Strenge with his first outing for his new chassis sponsors being this week’s IFMAR 1/8th Gas Buggy World Championships in Las Vegas. Due to a very late decision to attend, Daniel had to go through the much discussed qualifying race in which he was able to earn a ticket for the actual Worlds.

BRCA 1/8th Circuit National Championship Rd8 – Report

Round 8 of this year’s BRCA 1/8th Circuit National Championship was hosted by the Mendip circuit in Weston Super Mare. With the championship already won by Serpent’s Marc Green with an almost perfect score, the race was on for the minor places. The competition up front would be close with the inclusion of Infinity factory driver Kyle Branson to the entry. Kyle would be racing the new car for the second time in preparations for the final ENS race. His car was also fitted with O.S. engines for the first time to allow him to gain valuable setup knowledge and drivability experience. On Saturday, the pace early on was quick but the track seemed to slow during the day with the lap times around 0.4 seconds slower than the best times of 15.2 seconds. The pace setters were Green and Branson. The Mendip track asphalt as become very abrasive over the years making it critical on tyre wear.
