Asian On-Road Championship Rd4 – Track Focus

The Asian On-Road Championship Series, presented by Scotty Ernst, has landed in Hong Kong for its 4th round at Tom Racing Circuit. Located five minutes from the old facility, the newly relocated TRC tracks has been in for a year and is home to three tracks in one massive facility. This weekend the AOC will be ran on a fresh layout on the EP track. With its massive 52m x 30m dimensions, it will provide generous space for 1/10th scale battles throughout the weekend. The surface is very smooth and the asphalt is very fine that should provide grip and long lasting tire wear. Club races on the EP track are only held every two months which makes club racing feel like a bigger race.

Italian LRP Challenge Grand Final - Report

The Grand Final of the Italian LRP Challenge was held in Rome with some of Italy’s fastest driver competing against guests from abroad. In the premier class of Touring Car Modified Alessio Menicucci (Xray) grabbed the pole position for the finals with a very swift TQ time in front of Jan Ratheisky (Xray) and Ronald Völker (Yokomo). In the finals things changes a bit though and so Ronald took the win from Alessio and Jan. Simone D’Ottavio came in fourth, Federico Milanese rounded out the top 3 result.

Jarred King takes NSW 4WD Buggy State Title

The 2015 NSW Electric Off-road State Championships were held in the usually hot and sunny Maitland although the weather was very different this time around. Saturday started off with a dry and slippery track but overnight downpour mixed things up for Sunday’s race day. Racing didn’t got underway till lunchtime but then another healthy downpour stopped racing until around 2 pm. The organisers decided to reduce qualifying to three rounds and the finals to two legs meaning the fastest time would win the title. Q1 of the 1/10th 4WD class saw Mitchell Steer coming out fastest from Jarred King, and also Q2 would see Mitchell coming out fastest meaning an early overall TQ for him. Behind Steer, the race was on for the 2 spot on the grid between Jarred King and multi-national champion Josh Pain. At the end Josh grabbed the round TQ in Q3 to take the runner-up spot after the qualifiers from Jarred.

Nikolas Bowie joins Serpent Asia

Serpent have announced the signing of Nikolas Bowie to their Asian team. Bowie is specialised in on-road racing, both EP and GP, with 1/10th electric touring car as his premier class. Bowie will run most races in Indonesia with some international races in his area being on the agenda too.

Italian 1/8th Off-road Nationals Rd4 – Report

The Italian AMSCI 1/8th off-road national championship recently concluded with the running of the fourth and final round. Held at the Rome Cross Village track, more than 80 drivers competed on the three nitro categories of Expert, F1 and F2 and the event also saw the single round Electric Brushless Championship to be held. In the Expert category Davide Ongaro took the win from tone to tone in the 45 minute final. Behind him Marco Natale, Davide Tortoricci, Alessandro Stocco and Fabrizio Teghesi battled for the remaining podium spots with the positions changing constantly. At the end Marco held the upper hand by taking the runner up spot one lap down on Davide Ongaro, leaving Davide Tortoricci behind by only around 0.5 seconds. Alessandro ended the final some 3.5 seconds short of Davide in fourth, Fabrizo rounded out the top 5 in the same lap as the second to fourth placed drivers, making for an entertaining season finale.

2015/16 WCICS Anniversary season – Announcement

This season the Western Canadian Indoor Championship Series WCICS celebrates its 25th year as one of the World’s largest RC series, and the organisers have announced that Protoform has joined the series as title sponsor. WCICS President Josh Carter said “Protoform is originally a Canadian company, with their design studio still located in the Great White North. They are a fantastic organization, a natural fit, and a wonderful partner for WCICS. Huge thanks to Eric and Dale and the entire team at PF, we look forward to many successful years together.” This season sees some changes, as the Touring classes will be using slightly softer Sweep 28 tires while the 1/12th stock class will move to WGT stripe-style spec tyres to make for even closer racing. The opening round will be held on the 25th of September in Saskatoon, SK. More details can be found on the series’ website here.

Alexander Hagberg doubles at Xray Challenge Greece

The second running of the Xray Challenge Greece was again held at the Fanatix Race Track just outside of Athens with some 50 entries for the electric and nitro classes. Held over a single day the fun and entertaining event would see the attendance of Xray’s Alexander Hagberg who competed in the electric and nitro classes. In the nitro class, Alexander managed to take the TQ position after a fast and clean run, some 8 seconds in front of Greek driver John Sotiropoulos, and the Xray pairing of Nikiforos and Dimitrios.

Hinz wraps up double PL Indoor Champs victory

The Pro-Line Indoor Championships race was recently held at Warehouse3. Friday started out as all-day practice, with everyone trying to find the hot setup. On Saturday the track opened for three rounds of qualifying with rocket round times. About halfway through the 18-heat program was Mod 4WD Buggy. Tommy Hinz set the TQ time to beat by over 15 seconds. Up next was 2WD. Hinz again had the TQ run by 4 seconds over teammate Ashe Deering. In the second round, Hinz again TQd 4WD. However, 2WD racing got a bit closer. Deering was in the first heat and had a good run going the extra lap. Hinz followed him to go the extra lap and take TQ back over by half a second. Sunday was the triple A-mains and Hinz would win A1 and A2, wrapping up the win for both 2WD and 4WD classes.
