JConcepts Outdoor Turf Nationals – Report

JConcepts Outdoor Turf Nationals – Report

RC Madness in Enfield, CT, hosted to the first ever Outdoor Turf Nationals. The dedicated track and facility with one of the first Turf tracks in the United States offered up a challenge to all. As title sponsor, JConcepts offered a unique experience to the racer offering controlled (soon to be revealed astro/carpet) tires in the buggy classes while all other available classes used an open tire. Practice began on Friday afternoon after just a little weather had passed though the surrounding area. Jason Ruona and Alex Kosciuszek were among the early test drivers sorting out setup and learning the new layout. As the sun came out over the bright green racing surface, traction immediately came up and the racers were smiling. As the day moved on, racers practised in classes ranging from 17.5 Buggy to Stadium and SCT truck and while the buggies dominated the entry count the trucks appeared to be just as enticing as the buggies.

BRCA Touring Car Series final round – Report

BRCA Touring Car Series final round – Report

The final round of the BRCA Touring Car series took place at the West London track over the weekend. The meeting saw a victory for Schumacher’s Elliott Harper and in winning the meeting he took the 2015 Modified title. Going into the final round five potential drivers were still capable of taking the title, Harper made the best possible start by taking TQ ahead of championship contenders Chris Grainger, Olly Jefferies and Colin Price. Over the three leg finals Harper was able to ease a small gap over the chasing pack and keep out of trouble while Grainger Jefferies and Price battled behind, this allowed him to take the first two legs reasonably comfortably and in doing so take the meeting and title. Second at west London for the Associated of Grainger gave him second in the series and Jefferies completed the podium and that result netted him third in the series for Xray. The BRCA Championship win for Harper is his first national title and well deserved after coming close on a couple of previous occasions in the last two seasons with Team Durango.

Michael wins at East Coast Race Against Cancer

Michael wins at East Coast Race Against Cancer

The 14th Annual East Coast Race Against Cancer was held at McCullough’s RC in Sarver, PA, which is in close proximity to the city of Pittsburgh, PA. The race program would have three rocket rounds of qualifying with 10 racers directly qualifying into each main event with two bump-ups to make a 12-car field for the main race. The schedule originally was laid out so that there would be practice on Thursday with one round of qualifying on Friday, with the remaining two qualifiers taking place on Saturday and the Mains on Sunday. Due to the rain that was forecasted for Saturday, two rounds of qualifying would take place on Friday, which was the day that had the best weather out of the four days. In the 2WD Modified Short Course class Andrew Michael set an early top qualifying time in round one of qualifying and then bettered his own TQ time by 8 seconds in round two. Andrew’s TQ would hold throughout the third and final round of qualifying. Due to the rain Saturday night and on Sunday, the track was unable to be fit for racing, so the mains were cancelled and the final finishing positions were determined based upon how each racer qualified. Since Andrew was the Top Qualifier in the 2WD Mod Short Course Truck class, he was awarded the win.

Martin does EOS double at Nürburgring

Martin does EOS double at Nürburgring

Lee Martin completed the perfect start to the defence of his two Euro Offroad Series titles today giving Yokomo’s new YZ-4 a debut victory to back up yesterday’s 2WD win at the Nürburgring season opener.  After a rough opening 4WD A-Main, Xray’s Martin Wollanka taking that win, Martin would convert his TQ starting position into wins in A2 and A3 although both Wollanka and Bruno Coelho would make the British ace work hard in the closing race. The Xray drivers would complete the podium with Wollanka achieving his best finish with second and Coelho capping off an impressive EOS debut with third.

Wollanka wins A1

Wollanka wins A1

Martin Wollanka has won the opening 4WD A-Main of the Euro Offroad Series at the Nürburgring, the Xray driver benefiting from a second lap clash between Top Qualifier Lee Martin and Bruno Coelho.  Leading for the rest of the race the Austrian would back off over the closing laps but almost went too slow with HB’s David Ronnefalk catching and passing him two corners from home.  However it was Wollanka who came out of the final corner in the dash to the line to win.  Behind them Tom Cockerill, who started 7th would complete the Top 3 with Coelho and Martin coming home 6th and 8th respectively.

Martin gives new YZ-4 TQ at Nürburgring

Martin gives new YZ-4 TQ at Nürburgring

Lee Martin has given Yokomo’s new YZ-4 its first accolade by becoming 4WD Top Qualifier at the Euro Offroad Series season opener at the Nürburgring.  The reigning champion, who yesterday took victory in 2WD, claimed the honour of Top Qualifier when he backed up his Q3 TQ with another in the fourth & final round.  With the Xray pairing of Bruno Coelho and Martin Wollanka, who TQ’d Q1 & 2 respectively, going into the round in contention for pole, Coelho would make too many mistakes and end up only 12th fastest leaving him to line up 2nd on the grid.  Having had a difficult round 2 & 3, Wollanka would deliver a P4 time to secure the No.3 starting position ahead of Martin’s team-mate Marc Rheinard who claimed second in Q4.  Behind Rheinard, HB’s David Ronnefalk would surprise with a much needed P3 in the final qualifier which will see the Swede line up 6th on the grid behind Michal Orlowski.
