Vässmar & Nilsson win at Swedish nationals

Vässmar & Nilsson win at Swedish nationals

Last weekend the Swedish electric on-road Nationals was held in the town of Växjö, in the south central part of Sweden. The race was run in 1/10 Touring Modified and 1/12th scale Modified on a pretty challenging track with some tight 180 degree corners and tricky chicanes. In 1/10 TC most of Sweden’s fast drivers were in attendance. The qualifiers got underway on Saturday after a whole day of free practice on Friday with three out of five rounds to count. In Q1 Magnus Vässmar took the round in front of Niclas Nilsson and Markus Hellquist. Q2 had Niclas taking the round in front of Markus. Q3 was a blueprint of Q1 with the order being Magnus, Niclas and Markus. Q4 went to Niclas with Magnus in 2nd, so for the final round Magnus and Niclas had 2 TQs each. Q5 was run on Sunday morning and some bad driving from Niclas destroyed his chances to take the desired pole position letting Magnus taking the round in front of Markus and Daniel Carlsson securing Magnus the overall TQ.

Barry Baker wins at JBRL Electric Series Rd1

Barry Baker wins at JBRL Electric Series Rd1

Round 1 of the 2014 JBRL Electric Series visited IERC Raceway in San Bernardino, California and was greeted by a record 400+ entries. More popular than ever, the JBRL Series includes a variety of indoor and outdoor tracks across Southern California, with participation from some of the top factory drivers in the region. In 1/8 E-Buggy Reedy’s Barry Baker was pretty much the dominating factor. Starting from the pole position, Barry led wire to wire for the win in the 10-minute main event to take maximum points and another cool plaque. And in what many consider to be the premier off-road class in the series and in the U.S. as a whole, 2WD Modified, Barry Baker came back from a poor start that saw him fall as low as ninth to take the win with his Reedy-powered buggy.

The first Xray Challenge Germany was held at the small permanent indoor track of the MAC Adenau club which is located just outside the famous Nürburgring. The race entry was limited to 50 drivers due to the pit space being limited. The race was sold out immediately, which gave an indication of the big interest in these kind of races. The classes run were TC Modified, TC Stock 13.5T as well as 1:12 Stock 10.5T. The track, even though being fairly small, proved very enjoyable to drive with its high traction level and challenging corners.

Sinclair & Bickel win at Mafia Mayhem Race

Sinclair & Bickel win at Mafia Mayhem Race

REO Raceway in Rockport, Indiana hold the Mafia Mayhem last weekend. Track owner Jay Bickel was very pleased with the 155 entry turnout, one of the largest ever at REO. X Factory team drivers Paul Sinclair and Cody Bickel dominated most of the racing action, taking TQ and winning 4 classes.  Sinclair took the TQ in 4WD and the fiercely-fought 2WD Buggy class, just one second over his teammate, and was able to cruise to a victory in both A-mains. Cody wrapped up the racing truck classes, showing an incredible pace. Particularly exciting was the Short Course A-main, which featured 5 drivers in the hunt for more than half the race until Cody was able to break away with 4 minutes to go, taking the win with his SCX-60CF.

Lars Haugen takes Norwegian 1/12th national title

Lars Haugen takes Norwegian 1/12th national title

The Norwegian 1/12th scale championship was held in Spydeberg last weekend. The well organised race was run on quite a large track and attracted 21 drivers in the Modified class. The race format saw 5 rounds of qualifying, followed by triple mains. From early on it was clear that keeping good power over the 8 minute heats would be important in order to score good results. This was proven in the first round of qualifying where several drives did not make the 8 minute mark and Lars Haugen would take the first round in the highly competitive field. Helge Johansen would go on to take home two rounds on qualifying with Swede Alexander Anderson taking another round leaving Helge with the overnight TQ. On Sunday morning Lars took home the last qualifier and with it the overall TQ honours by beating Helge’s fastest run. Alexander Anderson would start from 3rd on tie-break with Øyvind Stusdal who put his car 4th on the grid.

Yugo Nagashima wins at 2014 Speed King Tour Rd2

Yugo Nagashima wins at 2014 Speed King Tour Rd2

Round number 2 of the 2014 Speed King Tour took place at the World Jam Racing indoor tarmac track in the Gunma prefecture in four electric touring car classes including Modified, Stock, JMRCA Stock and Local. In the premier class of TC Modified, last year’s champion Yugo Nagashima took the TQ in front of TRF driver Takayuki Kohno. Round 1 winner Akio Sobue held the third position after the qualifiers. Following a good start into the A main, Yugo’ car lost rear grip in the first turn but he recovered quickly and kept the lead. Yugo then dominated the final from start to finish with his Yokomo BD7-2014. Akio moved up to second after a mistake of Kohno while young local talent Toyoki Yamada finished third to complete the podium. In the championship Akio keeps his leading position, while Yugo suffers from having missed the first round due to heavy snow fall. The next round of the 2014 Speed King Tour will be held at the RC Stadium track on the 6th of April.
