Another TQ run for Orlowski in Daun

Michal Orlowski has posted another TQ run at the Euro Offroad Series third round, this time the Schumacher becoming the first driver to record 14-laps around the uniquely shaped, large indoor carpet track in Daun, Germany. Having taken Q2 after a late error by Q1 pace setter Daniel Kobbevik, Orlowski took a convincing TQ in the penultimate round able to focus solely on his own driving  as both Kobbevik and Xray team-mate Bruno Coelho made early errors.  Behind Orlowski, Lee Martin secured the second fastest time denying Schumacher a 1-2 with Joern Neumann topping the second fastest heat to get a 3rd for his efforts.  Coming into the weekend sharing the points lead with Orlowski, Joona Haatanen would enjoy his best run posting a P4 time ahead of Hupo Honigl, who running in the second fastest heat would end up the fastest Xray for the round ahead of Coelho and Martin Bayer.

Orlowski snatches Q2 after last lap error from Kobbevik

Michal Orlowski has TQ’d the second round of qualifying at EOS Daun, the Schumacher driver benefiting from a last lap error from Q1 winner Daniel Kobbevik.  The Xray driver was on target to make it two from two but the table top was his undoing as he took too tight a line that resulted in contact with the corner wall that cost him over 3.5 seconds. This allowed both Orlowski and Bruno Coelho, thanks to his last lap being his fastest, to post quicker times with Kobbevik ending up 3rd.  Behind, there was a big gap back to 4th placed Lee Martin, the Yokomo driver having his own costly error half way through the run that cost him almost 4-seconds.  8/10th behind, HB Racing’s David Ronnefalk would pull a 5th from the round with Joel Valander rounding out the Top 6.

Michal Orlowski takes controversial home victory

Home town hero Michal Orlowski has won in Warsaw after a controversial call in A3 that involved the two main protagonists, Orlowski and Coelho. Just before the 2 minute mark the Xray driver got into the side of the Schumacher which resulted in the Pole ending up on his roof. Bruno tried to marshal the stricken car but at the same time they were swallowed up by the chasing pack, the Portuguese driver deemed to have left the incident early and so was asked to let Orlowski back passed. This ended Bruno’s challenge and so he pulled up, letting the race announcer know his feelings on the situation, deeming it unfair following a similar incident in the same location of the track in A1 didn’t receive a similar call. With a bad feeling in the air, despite taking the win, Orlowski didn’t celebrate, saying ‘during the race, I thought Bruno should wait, I spoke to him and he compared it to A1, In A1 he made a mistake and I touched him just after because I couldn’t react quick enough and then he made a mistake on the next jump. It’s a difficult situation.’ With two wins from two events Michal leaves Ptak Expo Warsaw as the leader of both modified championships, ‘Overall I’m happy cause it’s been such a difficult weekend especially in 4wd. Overall it’s a very good weekend’, ending by saying ‘I don’t know how to feel about the win.’

4wd goes to A3 as rivals can’t find way passed Coelho

Bruno Coelho has resisted enormous pressure to take 4wd A2 in Poland. Seeming to lack pace compared to those in pursuit, drivers lined up to take a shot at the leader but in the end the Xray driver held on for the win in a final that was enormously enjoyable to watch. Michal Orlowski finished 2nd, having dropped to 3rd after a failed passing attempt, with Joona Haatanen in the mix finishing 3rd. Jorn Neumann, who made also made a pass on Coelho only to roll over took 4th, with Daniel Kobbevik completing the train of drivers vying for the win ending up in 5th. A relived looking Coelho said ‘I’m not used to that, normally I’m first but not used to having so many people behind me and I don’t like the sensation’ he joked, ‘It was a great final, I tried to defend myself from the Schumacher guys that were very fast behind me. Everything ran very good and I try to do the same the next final.’

Orlowski capitalises on mistake by Coelho to win A1

Michal Orlowski took first blood in the 4wd class at the Euro Offroad Series in Warsaw, the battle with top qualifier Bruno Coelho failing to materialise after the Portuguese driver got it wrong on lap 3 and dropped down the order. Jorn Neumann would make it a Schumacher 1-2 as he took the runner up spot, with a recovering Coelho in 3rd and his Xray team mate Martin Bayer having a good run to 4th. Recounting the race, Orlowski said ’I had a new set of tires and pushed hard at the beginning, Bruno had an error on the double. I tried to avoid him but I couldn’t brake in the air and we had a small contact and on the next jump he made another mistake.’ Once in front the young Polish driver put his head down and ran the fastest 5 minute run of the weekend. ‘I just kept it on 4 wheels, I just had a clean 5 minute run, so I have a fast time for the tie break if it’s needed.’

Coelho to start 4wd A-main from Pole

Bruno Coelho will start EOS Poland from pole position after Michal Orlowski’s challenge came undone with the Polish driver having to start his home race from 2nd. Jorn Neumann, who pulled up to save tires in Q4 will start 3rd, in front of Joona Haatanen and Daniel Kobbevik who make up the top half of the grid. The Xray driver summed up Q4, in which he took his 3rd TQ of qualifying, said ’It was a good qualifier, I tried to drive smooth because I knew that Orlowski will push for sure to make the TQ. In the beginning he was catching me but I touched the curb and I had two cars behind and there was a big mess there.’ This accident also held up the Schumacher driver who was following closely behind ‘He lost a lot of time there also, he then made some more mistakes that were good for me.’ Looking to the Finals the Portuguese driver said ‘Myself, Orlowski and also Jorn have the same pace, it will be for sure be an interesting final.’

Michal Orlowski bounces back in Q3

Michal Orlowski bounced back in Q3, following a bad start to 4wd qualifying at the Euro Offroad Series in Warsaw, to take the top spot, and importantly in the fastest time of the 3 rounds so far. Bruno Coelho, who took both rounds yesterday evening, would claim 2nd in front of Jorn Neumann, with British Yokomo driver Paul Crompton in 4th just ahead of a greatly improved Wesley van Helmond. Happy to get his qualifying back on track the Warsaw native said ‘I got what I couldn’t get in Q1’ a mechanical error putting him out of the lead in the opening qualifying run. Continuing ‘the car felt really good, I will stay with the same setup for Q4 and try to take the TQ from Bruno’, ending by saying ‘I think we are in the game now.’

Coelho kicks of 4wd with TQ in Round 1

Qualification in 4wd kicked off with Bruno Coelho taking the top spot ahead of Xray team mate Daniel Kobbevik. Michal Orlowski headed the times until 3 and a half minutes in, when landing off the right side double the car went straight on, a loose screw the culprit. Winner in the 2wd class, which took place earlier today, Bruno, who lost time early in the run, said ‘I did a very big mistake in the beginning, I flipped and I lost 2 or 3 seconds, then I pushed maximum until the end and was able to catch Neumann, and I think then Orlowski stopped.’
