Bruno Coelho emerges victorious in Poland

Bruno Coelho has taken the overall victory in 2wd at the Euro Offroad Series in Poland after a mistake by pole man Michal Orlowski enabled the Xray driver to take the lead and subsequent win. Leading for the first 4 laps, the reigning Champion’s race would come undone as he got stuck up on the hairpin on the left side of the track. Coelho got hooked up on Orlowski’s car but was able to get free, inheriting him the lead and dropping the Schumacher driver back to 5th. He would eventually retire 5 laps later, breaking his car following a hard hit with the barriers at the wall ride as he tried to recover lost ground. Lee Martin would finally show some of his qualifying pace to take 2nd for the round but it was too late to salvage a top result and the battle for the final podium spot was between the two young guns, Daniel Kobbevik and Joona Haatanen, the former coming out best as he took 3rd in the final main. Talking with Bruno, he said ‘I had a small mistake in the beginning I touched the board, the car was again a little bit strange. Then I caught Orlowski very fast and he got stock on the corner and I got stuck to him but I was able to get away’ continuing ‘I had a little bit of pressure from Lee Martin after, but I was able to pull away slowly and manage the win.’

Orlowski takes it to A3

It’s all still to play for in Poland as Michal Orlowski took an uncontested win in A2 of 2wd at the Euro Offroad Series held at the Ptak Warsaw Expo. Having made a mistake in the first A-main this morning, the young Polish driver didn’t repeat his error this time and could win by a clear 5 seconds ahead of a scrappy run by A1 winner Bruno Coelho. The current and former champions were chased home by the super quick Scandinavian pair of Joona Haatanen and Daniel Kobbevik, with Neil Cragg again completing the top 5. On his run, Orlowski said ‘My aim for this run was to beat Bruno’s time from A1, so aim achieved.’ On his Schumacher buggy he said ‘The car felt really good so I can’t complain, I had a big gap, so I just cruised around and be consistent.’ Looking to the deciding 3rd A-main he remarked ‘For A3 I will put on my set (tires) from Q4, which felt really good, and just keep Bruno behind me. Basically I’ll keep it on 4 wheels and try to win.’

Orlowski makes hard work of Rd2 TQ

It was more of the same in the second round of qualifying here at EOS Poland, however reigning champion Michal Orlowski had to work hard for the TQ this round having lost a lot of time in a crash at the mid way point while leading. Lee Martin would once again take 2nd for the round, less than one second back, in front of the Team Associated pairing of Joona Haatanen and Neil Cragg in 3rd and 4th, with Swedish Kyosho driver Jessica Palsson completing the top 5. Describing his run, Michal said ‘It started off really good, I looked at my lap times and I had really low 19s, I had a cushion but made a mistake on the wall’. Continuing, ‘I was stuck on the pipe and then after followed Lee around trying to push as hard as possible to put pressure on him and he made a mistake and rolled over before the double so then I just tried to make the gap to go to the lead and it took about 2 laps’. Ending by saying ‘it wasn’t a clean run, it was way tougher than the first one but luckily in the end it was another TQ so looking good so far.’

Orlowski ‘makes up for 2WD’ with 4WD victory at Nurburgring

Reigning double Euro Offroad Series Champion Michal Orlowski has won 4WD at the season opener at the Nurburgring in Germany, the Schumacher driver saying ‘this makes up for 2WD’ in which he finished 3rd yesterday.  Orlowski secured his 5th EOS career win of 4WD when he again managed to stay ahead of second place qualifier Bruno Coelho, the Xray driver only coming into contention in the final round of qualifying. Top Qualifier, after taking 3 of the four rounds of qualifying, Orlowski again came under pressure from Coelho in A2 but got a break when his rival got caught up on the wall.  Handing the Pole a comfortable lead, two laps later he would have his own mistake allowing Schumacher team-mate Joern Neumann to close right in for a challenge on the lead but the tight track would catch the German out allowing the recovering Coelho back into 2nd.  From there he was closing down the leader but another error gave enough breathing space for Orlowski to take the final by more than a second & a half, his first 4WD victory from the TQ starting position.  Winning A3, new rules for Season #8 prevented Orlowski from racing the third A-Main, Coelho would finish 2nd with Daniel Kobbevik, 2nd in A3, rewarded for a great performance with the final step on the podium.

Orlowski holds off Coelho to win A1

Michal Orlowski has won the first A-Main of 4WD at the EOS opening round at the Nurburgring.  The Schumacher driver came under intense pressure from Xray’s Bruno Coelho, who momentarily took the lead at the end of the straight before coming off worst when the two buggies touched.  Giving Orlowski a huge break, the reigning champion would make a mistake half way through the race, which now 2nd placed Joern Neumann emulated, allowing Coelho a second go at his rival.  Having just put in the fastest lap of the race, 3/10ths better than that of Orlowski, he would make a mistake at the centre table, allowing Top Qualifier Orlowski to take the win.  Behind, Daniel Kobbevik completed the Top 3 just ahead of the recovering Neumann.
