Practice underway as drivers prepare to ‘Clash’ in Mississippi

Practice underway as drivers prepare to 'Clash' in Mississippi

The seventh running of the annual JConcepts Clash takes place this weekend in Flowood Mississippi where the big battle is set to between Team Associated’s Ryan Maifield and Team Losi Racing’s Dustin Evans. The winner of the three main classes at last year’s event when the ‘Clash’ made its first visit to the Flowood RC Indoor Park, Maifield has this year dropped out of the 1:8 Nitro Buggy instead running in 4WD as part of his preparations for the Electric Offroad World Championships which are just over 2 weeks away. Evans has also dropped nitro in favour of running 4WD EP Buggy alongside his 2WD Buggy & 2WD Short Course for the event. While TLR are set to contest the Worlds with a new 4WD chassis in limited numbers for their key team drivers, Evans will contest the Clash with his now classic XXX-4. TLR team-manager Keven Gahan is also racing in the event, this being his first ever Clash, but when asked about the subject of the new 4WD Buggy he did an excellent job of towing company lines and letting nothing out of the bag.

Martin Korn wins Pro Buggy at Labor Day Shootout

Martin Korn wins Pro Buggy at Labor Day Shootout

The region’s top 1/8-scale racers converged in Chico, California for A Main Hobbies’ Silver Dollar RC Raceway to race at the Annual Labor Day Shootout. The Silver Dollar track, which just hosted the ROAR 1/10-scale Off-Road Nationals a few weeks ago was completely rebuilt to give 1/8-scale racers all the space they needed to get massive air time and scream down the long straightaway. The Silver Dollar surface grooved up after fuel and rubber was put down giving racers plenty of traction. In the Pro Buggy class longtime racer, and A Main Hobbies’ team manager Marty Korn managed to take the top qualifying honours. He and fellow A Main Hobbies’ racer Austin Blair, as well as TLR’s Philip Atondo all took turns grabbing a TQ round. Korn’s two TQ rounds put him first on the grid for the main event. In the 45-minute A-main, Korn and Atondo would get out front and set a faster pace. Both drivers were running 9-plus minute pit stops, which enabled them to gap the rest of the field. Atondo kept it close the majority of the race, but Korn was able to shake the pressure and pull out the victory.

Swedish On-road Nationals 2013 – Report

Swedish On-road Nationals 2013 – Report

The 2013 Swedish On-road Nationals was held at the relatively newly built facility of the Lidköping RCK, located towards the South-Western part of Sweden. The track is a fairly big one, with both sweeping and technical parts. The event was unfortunately struck by bad weather, with rain and very cold conditions, already from the start on Friday. The entry count reached 60, divided on three classes: 1/10 nitro on-road, 1/8 on-road, and 1/10 electric touring cars. In the 1/8 category, the race saw a late entry of the star of this year’s Swedish Cup in the 1/10 class, Markus Hellquist. In a controlled and blistering fast performance, he managed to snatch the overall win in front of many experienced 1/8 drivers. He came in in front of Mikael Fransson and Patrick Sahlin.

Adrian Berntsen wins Norwegian National Champs

Adrian Berntsen wins Norwegian National Champs

Last weekend the Norwegian National Championship was held at Sorlihavna, a track located near Oslo with 64 racers attending. This track is feared by many drivers, because the grip can get crazy and there are many local drivers from the hosting club that are very fast on this track. The weather prediction for the weekend was not good, and the qualification form that was used was round by round with two out of five counting. As predicted on Saturday morning the rain came. It would be crucial to get some points early, since the weather forecast promised a dry Sunday.

Brian Henn wins Pro4 & E-Buggy ROAR region 9 titles

Brian Henn wins Pro4 & E-Buggy ROAR region 9 titles

The ROAR Region 9 Roar Off-Road Regionals took place at Thornhill RC in Hutto, TX. Thornhill is a massive outdoor track that made for some great racing. Saturday had four rounds of qualifiers and in Pro4 SC, Brian Henn was able to TQ the first three qualifiers and sit out the fourth. In E-Buggy, Henn TQ’ed round 1, AE’s Jake Dellinger took round two and in the third round, Henn was able to snag TQ once again. Heading into the last round, both drivers were going to be pushing hard for the top qualifier position. Dellinger was able to take the round and since both had two TQs it went out to the third quickest run which gave Henn the pole position for E-buggy. On main day all electric classes did a double A format. In Pro4, Henn was able to win A1, and A2 securing the ROAR Region 9 title. In E-Buggy, Dellinger and Henn had a very close battle for the majority of A1. Brian was able to grab the win by only a few seconds. In A2, the two had an early battle brewing, but a costly mistake by Dellinger cost him some time in the last few laps. Henn went on to take the A2 win and his second ROAR Region 9 title this weekend.
