Matsukura TQs second 2WD Buggy Qualifier

Matsukura rules Q2 at Cactus

Having notched up his first TQ run at the Proline Cactus Classic in 2WD Buggy, Naoto Matsukura appears to relish the night time conditions at SRS Raceway in Scottsdale, Arizona, with the factory Yokomo driver completing a buggy double by taking his B-Max 4 to the fastest time in 4WD ahead of Kyosho’s Jared Tebo and Q1 Top Qualifier Ryan Cavalieri. A much closer affair than 2WD, the Top 3 were separated by just 1.2 seconds with the 19-year-old Japanese ace running a time for the 5-minute qualifier that was just 3/10ths slower than Cavalieri’s Q1 time.

Team Associated at Silverstone Winter Series

Team Associated at Silverstone Winter Series

The Silverstone Radio Control Model Car Club were hosts to a fabulous six round winter series that has proved extremely popular with the racers, each event being over-subscribed despite being held on a rather untraditional Saturday. A different track layout was used each time and the designs were enjoyable to drive and testing for the drivers, laid out on very high bite astro-turf with some additional slippery surfaces thrown in along with a variety of jumps and ripples. 2WD was the most popular class with a multitude of national A finalists on show and it was CML/Associated/Centro driver Tom Yardy that showed the way – taking the championship with a perfect score using his Centro C4.1. The 4WD class was taken by Chris Bowater (Team Associated B44.2). There was also a full compliment of 2WD Short Course trucks racing at each meeting and it was a strong showing by the Team Associated SC10 FT with the truck taking all the pole positions and all the wins in the hands of Liam Galvin and Simon Chambers. With all the points tallied up Liam Galvin’s Reedy powered SC10FT took a convincing win to complete the Team Associated title white-wash.

Matsukura top seed for Cactus qualifying

Team Yokomo’s Naoto Matsukura is the top seed for tomorrow’s qualifying at the Proline Cactus Classic after the Japanese driver set the fastest 3-consecutive laps in both 2WD & 4WD buggy practice today at the SRS Raceway track in Scottsdale, Arizona. Fastest in 2WD at the end of the first round of controlled practice with a time of 64.364, the World Championship finalist couldn’t better his pace during his second run but did still manage to top the CP2 times sharing an identical time with Team Associated Ryan Cavalieri who improved from being 6th fastest to ending the day as the 3rd seed. In 4WD Cavalieri had set the pace in CP1 but having changed to softer shock oil Matsukra was able to knock 8/10ths off his previous time to run a 62.278 and go fastest ensuring both his B-Max buggies start the opening qualifier from the No.1 spot.
