32nd Annual Electric Winter Midwest Champs – Report

One of the longest running races in RC history, the legendary Winter Midwest Championships is now in its 32nd edition and still going strong as entries nearly hit 400 this year to kick off the 2019 indoor racing season from Jeffersonville, Ohio. There was something special about this year’s event as you could feel the excitement in the air that made this year a little bit different than years past. Silly Season perhaps?! Many were anxious to hit the track and show off for their new sponsors and make a name for themselves and there’s no better way than to have an awesome outing at the legendary CRCRC. This year’s layout was a blast, pure and simple. The track dimensions cater to a long fast straightaway, but this layout featured a front straightaway that had a really technical triple, triple section. Truthfully, it tested everyone’s jump timing … including the pros.

The race is held in the super-sized MK shopping centre, a superb location with approx. 100,000 visitors per day, and organised by the capable Silverstone RCMCC. With 180 plus entries and several of Europe’s very best professional RC racers in attendance the MK GP was always going to be the ‘must-attend’ event for the major manufacturers for the main 1/10th off-road 2WD and 4WD Buggy classes, making it possibly the biggest off-road event taking place in the UK this year. The track looked relatively simple from the side-lines, but clearly as each heat of drivers took to the track the difficulties became clear – getting a smooth, trouble free 5x minute qualifier would be hard to achieve.

Nick Cox wins at North West Nitro Series Rd2

Round 2 of the North West Nitro Series was held at the club’s Mythop Road site near Blackpool this past weekend in pretty windy weather conditions. The original plan was to use the club’s dirt track but given the wind direction and openness of the rostrum it was decided to use the astro track instead. The wind never let off all day but this helped dry the wooden section as the day progressed but in the last qualifying round it rained for 5 mins making things interesting again for all. In the end it was Nick Cox (HB Racing/Team Orion) with the win in the Nitro Buggy A-main from Chris Sharpe Simkiss (SWorkz/SPower) in 2nd. Vincenzo Zuccarelli would round out the top 3 with his Novarossi-powered ride.
