Akio Sobue to start out front at TRC

Akio Sobue will start this evening’s 4 minute triple A-mains at Rd3 of the OneTen series presented by Infinity from pole position having returned to the top of the timing sheets in Q3. Nicholas Lee consolidated his 2nd place starting position with 3rd behind Andy Moore in Q3, the British driver having a good run to move him up to 4th overall. Jin Sawada will set off from 3rd, with Fai Ho and Jan Ratheisky completing the top 6. Sobue felt that the traction on track was now better than before and like his whole team decided to use new Sweep rubber. Looking to the finals, the Japanese driver expects that he will use one more new set saying that his car now feels not so different from the beginning to the end.

Q2 in Hong Kong goes to Lee

Nicholas Lee took round 2 of qualifying at TRC following a gamble with tires which paid off. Akio Sobue would end up in 2nd for the round followed by his Infinity team mate Jin Sawada in 3rd and Fai Ho again putting in a good run to claim fourth while fellow Hong Kong driver Carven Chow was 5th. Yokomo driver Lee decided to run new tires in Q2 as his competitors decided for used tires, each driver only allowed 5 sets of handout Sweep tires for the entire race weekend. Knowing he needed a 2nd good run to start at least in 2nd position for the triple mains later today, the Singaporean remarked that the track is not easy to pass on so he wanted to ensure he would at least start ahead of Sawada. Feeling that his BD9 was too stable, for the 3rd and final qualifier he will look for more steering, installing the rear active toe option on his Yokomo.

Sobue & Ratheisky take opening qualifier in Hong Kong

Following a later than planned start, the 3rd round of the OneTen Series presented by Infinity finally got underway with beautiful warm weather greeting all the entries for this the second stop of the series at TRC in Hong Kong. In the Sweep Modified class it was Akio Sobue who kicked off qualifying with the fastest time over the 6 minute run, followed closely by Nicholas Lee. Jin Sawada would take 3rd, while Jan Ratheisky, top local driver Fai Ho and former WC Andy Moore completed the top 6. While ending quickest, Sobue had one moment coming onto the straight, when is IF14 rolled over, but luckily righted itself, admitting that the car was so good he was able to recover the lost time.

2018 Arrowmax Cup Rd5 – Report

The fifth round of the 2018 Arrowmax Cu was held at the SYE track in Shanghai, China lest weekend. Despite this race held under the tread of bad weather, letting it end easier than planed, it was pretty competitive. In the Touring Modified class Nicolas Koh took the TQ from local driver Lin in 2nd. After the finals it was still Nicolas on top in front of Lin as young local talent Dai Shuxia rounded out the top 3.

Caroli & Laubscher crowned SA 1/12th champions

The 2018 season of the South African On-Road Electric National Championship for the 1/12th scale class recently concluded and it was Xray’s Antonio Caroli who managed to retain the Modified class title. Antonio took the overall win following a great battle with Marius van Niekerk (Xray) on the runner-up spot as Shaun Schutte (Xray) rounded out the top 3 results.

Luke Duthie takes Australian 1/8th On-road title

The Australian IC Track Nationals were held in Melbourne last week in challenging weather conditions. In the 1/8th IC Track class it was Steven Jovanovic (Capricorn) with the TQ from Mugen’s Jeff Hamon. In the 45-minute A-main event however it was Infinity’s Luke Duthie who would prevail, taking the win some four laps in front of Shepherd’s Ric Bartolozzi on the runner-up spot. Leigh Dytor (Mugen) would complete the top 3 podium result.

Tom Firsching wins 1/12th Stock at 2018 U.S. Indoor Champs

The 39th running of the famed U.S. Indoor Championships was held in Cleveland last weekend. The event presented some new motor and gearing rules for several classes designed to level the playing field and each competitor received a motor and only one gear selection was allowed. CRC drivers dominated the 1/12th 17.5 class qualifying, with a 1-2-3 sweep. Tom Firsching, Dana Bailes and Mark Calandra grabbed the top 3 positions after four rounds of qualifying. In the A-main, Tom Firsching would be steady and smooth, fending off an early full-fledged assault from teammate Dana Bailes. The top 2 would have a titanic battle with Tom hanging tough and Dana doing an incredible job trying to find his way around Tom without any contact. John Wiita would work his way into 2nd position to make it a CRC 1-2 on the podium while Team Associated’s Joe Trandell rounded off the podium.

Alex Vaughn doubles at Wednesday Night Turkey Nats

Leisure Hours of Joliet, Illinois held their Wednesday Night Nationals last week. In the 4WD Mod Buggy class it was Alex Vaugh with the TQ and win from Jason White in 2nd and Frank Hodits in 3rd. Over in 13.5T Wheeler class it was again Alex Vaughn with the TQ and win as Rich S and Nick Smrt rounded out the top 3. The 17.5T 2WD Buggy class had Austin Wick taking the day’s win from Alex Vaughn on the runner-up spot and Rich S taking 3rd.
