Orlowski aims to kick off new EOS season with home win

Season #7 of the Euro Offroad Series kicks off this weekend (20-22 Oct) in Warsaw, Poland, with reigning 2WD Champion Michal Orlowski aiming for a repeat of his last performance on home soil. The Schumacher driver, who lives in the Polish capital city, did the double last year when Warsaw hosted the second round of the indoor carpet offroad championship going on to claim his inaugural EOS title win. With Poland returning as the opening race of the championship, Orlowski will be looking to capitalise on the energy of the race’s large show crowd to get his title defence off to a winning start. Running as part of the World Travel Show, which is expected to be attended by over 30,000 visitors, the teenager knows that as champion he is the one everyone is out to beat. While already facing tough competition from Xray, Yokomo and Team Associated established driver line-ups, this weekend will see the high level of competition further bolstered by the additions of former 1:8 Offroad World Champions Ty Tessmann and Atsushi Hara as they make their EOS debuts.

Steve Deblaere wins Formula class at Tonisport Masters

The Tonisport Masters was held at the Arena 33 track in Andernach last weekend. The high-grip track in combination with the mandatory Volante tyres and CS additive made for a level playing field but the fun didn’t stop here. Tonisport organisers Andreas Reifferscheidt and Sebastian Meiborg introduced a whole new system to spike up the racing. The practice rounds were still held according to the normal rules; five minute heats with a ranking list based upon the best three consecutive laps. For qualifying however, the single best lap time would be accounted for. The racers had to strategically make a run of a maximum of eight laps in a ten minutes period. As there were four qualifying rounds, each driver’s single best lap time would decide their final grid position, more or less like in full scale racing.

The 2017 1/10 Offroad Victorian State Titles were held at the red clay track of the bordertown Wodonga RC Club. The original date in August was washed out so the re-run was held in combination with the Coleman Cup, an event that has been running for over 20 years in memory of a young racer who tragically died at a young age. This event celebrates sportsmanship and competition, and the prestigious ‘Coleman Cup’ for services to the sport was awarded to Bazz Densely who not only prepared buggies for his two kids to race but also helped with track prep and even cooking the bbq through the weekend.

Heras wins Spanish 1/8th finale as Ortega takes title

The final round of the Spanish 1/8th IC Track National Championship was held at the Club Carsol track in Elche in the south of Valencia. Carlos Peracho Heras was the man to beat and he would take the pole position for the A-main event. Joining him was Adrián Santeiro who won the Super Pole race that was held under rainy conditions. The changing weather was also a key factor in the semi-finals with the right tyre choice being crucial to secure a ticket for the main event. For the sake of excitement all championship favourites, Sergio Montesinos, Rubén Olivares, Victor González and Guillermo Pérez, made their way into the main, so the championship would go down to the wire. From the tone Peracho Heras and Olivares Munoz separated from the field despite the two being in a wheel-to-wheel battle. The pit crew of Carlos showed some very swift work during the main and in the end he was able to walk away with the win in front of Vicente Eres Ramos. Further down the field it were Sergio Montesinos Ortega and Guillermo Pérez who had a long battle for 3rd position, and in the end the latter took the final podium spot by only a tenth of a second. For Sergio Ortega the 4th place was enough to be crowned new Spanish Champion 2017.

Fall Super Cup Rd2 – Report

For the first time in Super Cup history, the JConcepts Super Cup Championship Series was held outside of the Florida State line and ventured into Savannah, Georgia’s Phil Hurd Raceway. 3-time host to the US Offroad Nationals in 91, 92, and 95, Phil Hurd Raceway is a track well known for its rich history and this year is celebrating 30 years of operation. The track is massive resembling more of a 1/8th track than 1/10th. With room to spare, lap times were in the 31 second plus range making mistake free runs extremely difficult. With heavy rain falling on Friday, Saturday morning saw a slow start to the day as the track crew fought hard to get the track race ready. As the sun came out, the track was quickly drying and racing was underway just around 2pm. The flow of the track was great and the layout extremely fun with a Phil Hurd twist. By the mains, the grip was much higher allowing cars to put the power down and made for a great night of racing under the lights.
