Ben John successful at Saturday Night Carpet Series

The recent Saturday Night Carpet Series in Idaho saw Ben John taking the TQ position after the double qualifiers. From the tone he and the second place driver started to separate themselves from the field and they soon started to lap the field so they started to trade positions due to line choices. Both battled nearly all of the 5-minute main and at the end an issue of his competitor allowed Ben John to cruise to the win for the last three laps. Gary Orvit had to settle for second while Patchez rounded out the top 3.

Hadley & Munn sweep Cabin Fever 2017

Widely considered to be the official kickoff to the outdoor season in the Pacific NW, the annual Cabin Fever race was once again hosted by the RC Car Club of Lewiston, Idaho. The highly anticipated event drew 296 entries despite adverse weather conditions that closed mountain passes in the region, causing many racers to travel much longer distances than normal. Racers from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Canada were all in attendance. Ironically the “outdoor kickoff” is held inside a covered arena at the Lewiston, Idaho Rodeo Grounds. The track is a bit larger than most tracks in the area, and while made to allow the smaller 1/10th scale cars to have great racing, the tracks for the Cabin Fever race tend to feature large obstacles and cater more to the 1/8 vehicles. The cold temperatures and changing track conditions made a lot of racers rethink tire choices throughout the weekend as the building was not heated. In the premier 1/8th Nitro Buggy class Keith Hadley too the TQ and win with Taylor Wonders and Jason Hunt coming in second and third respectively.

Joel Eaton wins at Addiction RC Raceway club race

Addiction RC Raceway recently held a club race and in the 2WD Buggy class A-main Joel Eaton, coming from the 2 spot on the grid, fell back to third due to a bobble on new tyres in the opening stages. A mistake by Jenkins put Brady Anderson to the point with Joel in close pursuit. A clean pass for the lead by Eaton on Brady was the last time the lead would change hands just a few laps in. Brady was able to keep toe for a few more laps until Joel’s tyres finally broke in and he was able to click off high 14 second laps repeatedly to the end to bring home the win.

This time only a single Touring Car class, 17.5T Blinky, was run. In qualifying, run over four rounds with the best-2 points score to count, Dominic Quek (Xray) would secure an early overall TQ after three consecutive TQ runs. In Q4, Colin Tong (Xray) and Leonard Sim (Awesomatix) started Q4 in front, but a racing incident allowed Chee Lip Keong (Yokomo) to capitalise and secure a surprise TQ for the round. This shook up the final qualifying standings as Lip Keong secured P2 on the grid on the tie-break. Leonard would start in P3, with Colin in P4.
