Protoform WCICS Rd7 – Report

Protoform WCICS Rd7 – Report

The Protoform Western Canadian Indoor Championship Series held round 7 in BC’s “Tournament Capital”, Kamloops, British Columbia, hosted by the Thompson Valley R/C Race Club. It was a great race weekend, lots of entries, with full heats all around. As usual, TVRCRC threw down a unique layout that left drivers looking for every inch on track to shave off the lap times with the bravest pulling out all the stops to make time in the tightest of chicanes. In the premier Touring Modified class the top 3 would slip away, with a chase for the win. Q3 Jason Melnyk however was sent airborne off track doing the first lap. His car would not survive and he would be a spectator for the 5 minute main. TQ Blake Bell and Korgae Scales would clear the pack quickly and just after setting his fastest lap, Korgae would have some issues in traffic, widening the distance to Blake and allowing Q4 John Tsang through for second. It would appear the car did not survive the incident undamaged, and after another slow lap, Scales joined Melnyk as a spectator. The second incident entangled Tsang, and allowed Luke Pittman a break into second position. Tsang closed the gap, but was unable to pass Pittman by the buzzer, just 0.25sec back.

Only Yannick Aigoin denied Reno a clean sweep as the Xray driver grabbed the TQ in the final round by less then 1 second. The triple A-mains then were a done deal for Yannick who won the opening leg with a margin of 10 seconds from Yannick Aigoin and Carl Maignien. In A2 it was again Reno who came out fastest, wrapping up the overall win with one leg to spare. Behind Sayova it was again the duo of Aigoin and Maignien who came in second and third. The third and final A-main then was won by Jerome Sartel from Yannick to grab the final podium spot.

Markus Hellquist wins at SSIC finale

Markus Hellquist wins at SSIC finale

The final round of the South Swedish Indoor Cup was held in Alvesta, hosted by the Wäxjö MS club. The track was quite technical and it offered high traction, making a lot of drivers suffer from traction rolling. In the practice rounds Marc Fisher laid down the two best laps combined ahead of Markus Hellquist and Viktor Wilck, being less than a tenth behind. The qualifying result was based on the best single result, out of three rounds in total. After three rounds Viktor Wilck placed himself on the top spot, 0.052 seconds ahead of Markus Hellquist, and 2 seconds ahead of Marc Fisher. The finals then saw some really close racing between the top three drivers. After incidents that lead to the winner of the opening A-final being disqualified, and after the leader of the second final accidentally hit a car rolling across the track, Markus Hellquist managed to come out successful in A1 and A2 to grab the overall victory. Marc Fischer would end the day on the runner-up spot from Viktor Wilck in third.
