Greiner wins the 2015 German 1/10th Nationals

Greiner wins the 2015 German 1/10th Nationals

The German Nationals for 1/10th scale were held this past weekend in Leipzig in the eastern part of Germany. Qualifying would see Robert Pietsch on TQ for Mugen with Serpent driver Dominic Greiner a very close 2nd and his Serpent Team mate Toni Gruber in 3rd. In the semi-final Greiner came out on top with 101 laps, with Patrick Nahr and Pietsch with 100 laps in 2nd and 3rd so Greiner would start the Main final from pole position. Most of the final saw a great fight for 1st position between Greiner and Pietsch, a real cliff-hanger. Greiner’s Natrix 748 TQ worked really well and he was was on a different fuel-strategy as his Max showed better mileage, and he was also on a different tyre change strategy. So in this race his pit-crew of Thomas Guensel and Michael Salven were of huge importance. In the last part of the final Greiner had a small lead, but due to the very high temperatures, the chassis and engine became very hot, and being on very small tyres at the end of the race the clutch started sticking a little, losing some speed. At the finish line there was only 0.2 seconds gap ahead of Pietsch in 2nd and so Greiner took the National title, with Nahr taking the final podium spot in 3rd.

Lutz doubles at OS/Futaba Nitro Challenge

Lutz doubles at OS/Futaba Nitro Challenge

The OS/Futaba Nitro Challenge was held at the St. Louis Dirtburners track with a turnout of over 200 entries. The Levi Jackson built track was a lot of fun, watered and the grip level was pretty decent. As the sun got strong though the track began to dry quicker and it was made a decision to let it groove in early and hopes were it would hold together. By the end of practice on Friday everyone became aware that this wasn’t going as planned. The track got super dry and while there was a nice groove it had little holes in that groove that continually grew and spit out sand, dirt, and rocks. By the end of the weekend the track was a complete challenge as finding a setup to traverse the conditions was tricky. Everyone bemoaned about finding consistency and some found themselves using medium hardness tires, even though the conditions were loose.

The GP Brazil, the warm-up race for this year’s IFMAR 1/8th Nitro On-road World Championship, was held in Americana City this past weekend. The turnout was pretty low in the 1/8th class as many drivers feared security and immigration issues but according to JJ Wang’s father Rick everything went very smooth, with no issues and no security concerns at all. As for the racing, JJ dominated both the qualifiers and the final by taking the TQ some two laps ahead of Cesar Salvadori and Kazuo Ohara. In the 45-minute main final JJ took the win from Cesar who ended the race some three laps down. Eduardo Geraldelli came in 3rd another five laps down on Cesar to round out the podium.

Dutch 200mm Nitro On-road Nationals Rd4 – Report

Dutch 200mm Nitro On-road Nationals Rd4 – Report

Round four of the Dutch 200mm Nitro On-road Nationals was held at the lovely and recently resurfaced Apeldoorn track with 20 drivers in attendance. Saturday was pretty much washed away and this, in combination with a quickly improving track, meant the fastest qualifying times would be counted in the third qualifier and at the end it was Daan Jacobs (Serpent) who posted the only 20-lap run after being in a class of his own. Shepherd driver Roy Bakker recovered from a series of bad qualifyings by putting his car on the 2 spot in the 3rd qualifier, knocking out young Milan Holthuis. Ultimately John Bruis and Pedro Rombouts put their cars on 2nd and 3rd after the qualifiers. The main final then saw a very clever acting Daan who took the win without being really challenged. Behind him the battle for the remaining podium spots was on between Roy, Milan and Pedro. At first Roy dropped down the order only to recover later on but be then fall back again to make way for Milan who qualified through the semi final and was able to ultimately grab the runner-up spot. Pedro would round out the podium after a decent race.

Thanks to Ruben d’Arco for the report.
