Frederic Bourillon wins 200mm Euros B

Last weekend saw the start of EFRA’s summer Euros calendar with the 200mm European Championship B in Monaco and we received the following report from EFRA. Only a small number of drivers made it to the event with the actual reason for this is hard to tell. Partly it could be because of the tire issues, but there might be other reasons also. The class in general is having its difficulties, due to its complexity and you see more 1/10th scale drivers move to 1/8th. The scenery in Monaco, with its track against the mountains near La Turbie, is quite amazing and the organizer had made all efforts to welcome the drivers to this EC-B.

Mark Green wins BRCA 1/8th round 2

The second round of the 2012 BRCA national championship was hosted by the Halifax circuit in West Yorkshire, the host club for the 2013 European A Championship.  The entry for this circuit is normally high and with a good following so far this year, we had around 45 drivers present. With the tire additive issue set to be resolved with an EGM to be held on Saturday with all drivers present having to register for a vote. The item was with regards to changing the existing rule of ‘prohibited’ to ‘permitted’ to therefore allow the use of additive and most importantly prevent the lengthy policing procedure in which the committee had adopted. The outcome however was unanimous in favour to retain the rule prohibiting tire additive with the relevant penalty to be applied if anybody is found guilty of using such additive for the remainder of this season and until this is again reviewed at the BRCA AGM in October.

Dutch 1/10th 200mm Nationals Rd1 report

The 1st round of the Dutch 1/10th 200mm Nationals was held at the MRC Real’80 track. Conditions proved to be tricky with a mostly wet Saturday and Sunday. With special ‘wet’ cars allowed everyone tried to get as much track time as possible and the second and third round of the qualifiers even took place at reasonable conditions. Qualifying for the NK class saw Daan Jacobs take the pole position ahead of Pedro Rombouts, Daan Stuiver and Ruben d’Arco. The wet but slowly drying final saw Daan Jacobs pulling away from the field eventually winning two laps in front of Janwillem Gons who was chased by Arco de Jong and Ruben d’Arco in fourth position. In the Nomac class it was Rik Meijeren who won by 8 laps from Sidney Blokker in 2nd and Marcel Haenen in 3rd place. In the Combi Kyosho class Hans Westerveld was able to leave TQ John Weytboer behind him but only separated by 18 seconds. Two laps down Gerlof Hovingh came in in third position followed by Jan Timmer. Overall everyone had a good and fun weekend which seems to be the important part for these nationals now.

Víctor Peláez wins Spanish 200mm Champs Rd2

The second round of the Spanish 200mm National Championship was held in Gijón, with the weather forecast expecting rain for all the three days. This meant that all drivers had to adapt both their cars and their driving skills to all kind of situations, foreseeing that all qualifiers and all finals will be completely different one to another. Friday was useless, with the track completely wet there was no point on risking the car in free practice. Without being able to test one single minute, qualifiers started and as it was predicted they weren’t going to be easy at all. It was all about which tires worked and at what time. With the track being in a somewhat in-between state, nor flooded, nor dry, the window to choose between different tires was wide open and to make it even more interesting short moments of sun and showers took turn. TQ then went to Edu Escandón who opted for the right set of tires for the last qualifier, which strangely enough were dry tires, despite the track was still humid. Jonnhy Pastor took the runner-up sport with Luis Cayetano and Raul Casado following in third and fourth place.

KM World Cup Hong Kong selection race Rd5

The fifth round of the KM World Cup Hong Kong selection race took place last weekend at the HK-based ACO track. KM H-K1 driver Nicolas Lee from Singapore dominated the qualifiers and took TQ in front of Dirty Tiger and Hung Cheung Hang, both also piloting H-K1 chassis. Come the finals Nicolas had a slow start with Dirty Tiger and Hung Cheung Hang putting pressure on him and eventually overtaking him as the result of two errors made by the pole-sitter. Around the 15 minutes mark Hang made a mistake leading in a flame out meaning Nicolas was able to grab second place. Only a minute later disaster stroke for Dirty Tiger who broke his car making way for Nicolas, with Hung Cheung Hang finishing two laps down in second and Vincent Tang (KM H-K1) in third place.
