Bruno Coelho is 2019 SIGP Top Qualifier

Taking his 3rd round of qualifying, despite a mid run mistake, Bruno Coelho has locked down the top qualifying spot here in Xiamen at the 2019 SIGP. The Xray factory driver briefly lost the lead when he rolled his car, allowing Dominic Quek to the front but once back on his wheels he set about regaining the lead to take the win and with it pole position for tomorrow’s A-main finals. Quek was just half a second back in 2nd, also running the new Xray, while an improved Meen Vejrak completed Q3 in 3rd. Akio Sobue was 4th for Infinity while Nicholas Lee was fifth. Bruno said that they made a small suspension change which worked well despite the World Champion being on 3rd run tires. Asked abut his high speed crash he said that he only just gently clipped the curb which sent his car into what seemed like a slow motion roll before stopping against the back side of a curb. He was able to continue and regain the lead and with the TQ his he will use the final qualifier to test.

Q1 in Xiamen goes to WC Bruno Coelho

The first round of qualifying for touring car is complete and it was top seed Bruno Coelho who emerged on top. With the World Champion in a league of his own, 4 seconds behind it was Akio Sobue followed by the Singaporean pairing of Nicholas Lee and Dominic Quek with Viktor Wilck completing the top 5. Commenting on his TQ run, each driver getting 3 rounds today, the Xray driver said ‘it was very good’. Changing back to the base setup they used in CP1 yesterday, and making some further changes including the use of a lightweight body, he said that his T4 2020 was much faster this morning and had more steering. Feeling the track was slightly faster, the sun not showing up so far, Bruno said he will discuss with his mechanic Francesco Martini to discuss what to change ahead of Q2.

Bruno Coelho top seed at 2019 SIGP in Xiamen

Bruno Coelho has set the pace in controlled practice in the Modified EP class at the 2019 SIGP here in Xiamen, China. With drivers getting 2 runs of controlled practice today, it was the current World Champion that took his Xray to the top of the times with his CP1 time. Yokomo driver Meen Vejrak from Thailand was second overall, having topped CP2, with last season’s OneTen Series Champion Akio Sobue in 3rd for Infinity. Gary Huang and Dominic Quek completed the top 5 for Xray. Asked about his feelings following practice Coelho said that his new mid motor Xray T4’20 is working well, that is despite this weekend’s race being their first event on asphalt. Trying something different in CP2, the Portuguese driver said it didn’t work how they expected and so they will continue to explore different set-ups in the following runs, his CP1 time some 4 tenths clear over 3 laps from 2nd place.

Sawada completes perfect weekend at AMA

Again it wasn’t as straight forward as he would have liked but Jin Sawada has taken the win at Rd4 of the OneTen Series presented by Infinity this afternoon in Guangzhou. Pushed very hard at the start by Yugo Nagashima, the Serpent driver made contact with the pole sitter on lap 7 which allowed Gary Huang to jump into the lead, which he held for 6 laps before being passed again by Jin, the Chinese Xray driver eventually coming home in 3rd having crashed later in the race. Stick King would take 4th with Marco Ma and fellow Xray driver Minhao Lao completing the top 6. ‘The car was very difficult at the start’ explained Sawada which he said was the cause of the first mistake which caused Yugo, who was following closely behind, to tag the back of his IF14 just before the straight. Yugo waited and this allowed Huang through into the lead, the contact also causing the Infinity driver’s body to tuck but quick thinking saw him drive over the dots to untuck the body. Once back on track he could catch and easily pass Gary and pull out an unassailable lead to take the win and maintain his perfect scoring record in this year’s series.

Sawada to start on pole for OneTen Rd4

Again pushed from the start and having to come from behind, Jin Sawada was able to secure the TQ spot for this afternoon’s single 8-minute A-main. Dropping to 2nd in the early part of the run, Sawada got his head down and pulled back the necessary time to go to the top of timing sheets where he stayed to the end. Following a big crash on the last lap Yugo Nagashima would eventually drop down to 4th for the round but he will still start in 2nd in the final. Sawada was on new tires for the last heat and apart from adding more glue to the sidewalls doesn’t plan to make any changes for the final.
