Volker sets pace in first timed practice

Having had all day to either relax or travel to the nearby Arena 33, once the Modified action got underway this evening at Round 2 of the Euro Touring Series in Muelheim Kaerlich it was Ronald Volker who was quickest off the mark.  Topping the single free practice session, the Yokomo driver backed that up by topping the first of the two controlled rounds from Bruno Coelho, his 3-lap pace a 35.181 compared to the Xray driver’s 35.419. Making his ETS debut with Infinity, Marc Rheinard completed the Top 3 a further 3/10ths off while VBC Racing’s Yannic Prumper made it an interesting Top 4 by putting his car in the early mix.

Coelho out to extend ETS advantage in Germany

The Yokomo Euro Touring Series moves to Muelheim-Kaerlich in Germany this weekend (24-26 Feb) with Bruno Coelho looking to extend the championship lead he established after taking the TQ & win at the Season #10 opener in the Czech Republic in December.  Riding on a high from his TITC win in Thailand last weekend where he fought off intense pressure from former ETS Champion Jilles Groskamp in A3 to secure overall victory, Coelho’s mindset for the resumption of the ETS will also be boosted by the fact that the Round 2 venue is where the Xray driver took a breakthrough first win on carpet last year.  That weekend would prove a strong one for Xray with team-mate Alexander Hagberg, a previous winner of the event, making it a 1-2 for the Slovakian manufacturer but their rivals will be determined to prevent such celebrations this time round.

HB Racing officially announce Cody King deal

HB Racing have announced the addition of 2010 IFMAR 1/8 Nitro Buggy World Champion, Cody King to their team. The former long-time Kyosho driver was linked to HB Racing for some time now but it took until the week of the 2017 The Dirt Nitro Challenge to officially announce the deal. Cody has the following to say:

It’s exciting to join the HB Racing team, and be reunited with Philippe Neidhart, Adrien Bertin, and David Ronnefalk. Clearly the platform has potential after winning 3 of the last 5 Worlds, including the last 2 in a row. The Team Orion engines have only improved over the last few years, and I won the Pattaya Worlds with Team Orion power. It feels like a fresh start with a great team, and I’m looking forward to 2017 and beyond.

Coelho takes TITC with ‘hardest win’ of career

Bruno Coelho has successfully defended his TITC title after a thrilling A3 at the Infinity Addict Circuit in Thailand with the Xray driver afterwards describing the victory as the ‘hardest win of (his) career’. Winning the opening final with ease, he would crash out of A2 while leading meaning the 15th running of Asia’s most famous race would be decided between him and A2 winner Nicolas Lee in the closing encounter.  Securing the overall TQ on a tie breaker with Infinity’s Jilles Groskamp, it was the Dutch driver who despite no longer being in title contention would put him under the most pressure as he had done in A2.  Running bumper to bumper, Groskamp would hit Coelho allowing Ronald Volker to go to the front but it was now the battle for second that got all the attention.  Having the fastest winning time, second would still be enough for Coelho to give Xray its third consecutive TITC win but having waited following the contact, Groskamp wanted to get the pass on the ETS Champion.  Applying intense pressure however he couldn’t get it done as Coelho, despite the Bangkok heat, kept his cool to get the all important P2 for a win even his great rival Volker said afterwards he didn’t get easy.  While Lee would get 2nd, something he was guaranteed after A2, Volker would somehow pull off an unexpected podium with 3rd thanks to his A3 win leaving Groskamp to miss the podium at what is now his home race.
