World’s best ready to battle at 19th Reedy Race

World's best ready to battle at 19th Reedy Race

The Reedy Race of Champions is one of the most famous races in the world and was the brainchild of one of the sports greatest pioneers Mike Reedy.  Looking to celebrate his birthday by hosting a race, in 1987 the motor guru created an all new concept for an event in which 32 of the best offroad drivers in the World where invited to race both 2WD and 4WD buggies in a series of head to head races with the driver achieving the best points tally over the 8 races being declared Champion.  First run in 1987, when Chris Allec took the title, the 2013 Reedy Race of Champions is the 19th running of the event which after an 8-year break due to a decline in the 4WD class was resurrected in 2009 when Ryan Cavalieri won the title at the Yatabe Arena in Japan, which is so far the only time the event has been hosted outside of the USA.

Volker fends off Fischer for ‘very special’ ETS win

Yokomo’s Ronald Volker held off an intense challenge from Serpent’s Marc Fischer in the 3rd & deciding A-Main at the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in the Czech Republic this afternoon to claim his ninth ETS win, one which the defending Champion afterwards described as being ‘very special’.  Having made mistakes in the opening 2 legs of the A-main which allowed Awesomatix’ Freddy Sudhoff to win the first and Fischer the second, all the pressure was on the German ace in the third leg as not only did he have to win but he also had to make sure did so at a fast enough pace.  In the end he did just that bettering Fischer’s Leg 2 winning time by 3 seconds to take the win on tie break with his fellow German. Struggling with his set-up in the final race of the day finishing fourth Sudhoff completed the podium at Hrotovice.

Fischer wins A2 in Hrotovice

Fischer wins A2 in Hrotovice

Marc Fischer was the winner of the second A-Main at the Euro Touring Series in Hrotovice after errors by Top Qualifier Ronald Volker allowed the Team Serpent driver to catch and pass the defending champion.  Volker looked like he was in for an easy race after Leg 1 winner Freddy Sudhoff got out of shape on the second lap.  The incident saw the Awesomatix driver’s car collect the Yokomo of Dominik Fleischmann who suffered a body tuck.  Showing great sportsmanship Sudhoff waited on his fellow German put this left him 10th and out of contention of the race.

Sudhoff wins first A-Main at Czech ETS

Sudhoff wins first A-Main

Team Awesomatix’s Freddy Sudhoff took advantage of a rare mistake by Team Yokomo’s Ronald Volker in the opening leg of the A-Main of the second round of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in the Czech Republic to take a popular win ahead of his fellow German with Team Serpent’s Marc Fischer completing the Top 3.  Top Qualifier Volker caught a dot on the second lap of the race unsettling his BD7 and allowing Sudhoff to pass but ‘Fast Freddy’ was to earn the win on merit as he pulled clean of the pack setting the fastest lap of the 5-minute race in the process.  While Volker made a late challenge over the final four laps of the race reducing the gap to half a second by the finish he was never a serious treat.
