Viktor Wilck wins 2012 touring car RROC

The 2012 Reedy Touring car race of champions was held last weekend at Norcal Hobbies in Union City, California. This year’s race attracted a large number of international racers from Europe with a lot of the pro drivers taking the opportunity to test at the track in the week ahead of the event. As per usual the event is heads up racing with the 6 best results from 8 counting towards the final points. On Saturday, which would see 4 of the invitational races run, it was new Yokomo driver Hayato Matsuzaki who would dominate proceedings taking 4 wins from 4 to lead overnight ahead of Jilles Groskamp driving his Tamiya. On Sunday however Hayato’s challenge fell apart with some poor results leaving him in 4th overall. Day 2 belonged to Tamiya racer Viktor Wilck who started the day with a second to add to his tally of 2 wins the day before. It kept getting better with Viktor taking 3 more wins which would give him the same points as Ronald Volker, but the title would be decided on number of wins with Viktor taking it with 5 wins to give the Swedish driver his first major title since the DHI Cup in 2008. Ronald Volker would take 2nd place with Jilles Groskamp in 3rd.

Arnaud Mathieu wins 1/8th European ‘B’ title

Last week saw the 1/8th ‘B’ European championship held in Thionville in the North of France. With nice hot weather during the week and new asphalt on the track as well as a new layout and sugared water sprayed for a better grip the conditions were perfect for all drivers. From the start of practice, local driver, and reigning French Champion, Arnaud Mathieu (Motonica P81 RS2) set the pace. After the opening round of qualifying, it’s a fast Sabrina Lechner who took the the pole on Thursday with a 27 lap run in 7’01. On Friday, with 4 rounds of qualifying many drivers would have the opportunity to improve, but the morning heat should be the fastest because of the fresh air.

Andernach 24 hour endurance race report

Thirteen years ago, Uwe Rheinard co creator of the Euro Touring Series, started his annual 24 hour endurance-race with 23 teams of Tamiya´s FWD VW Beetle and last weekend this year’s event took place, again with 23 team taking part. For many years Dickie-Tamiya Germany have supported this event with a special deal for Tamiya TT01 kits and everybody is certain that this is the only chassis to use for such a long distance. On Saturday morning every team got the Tamiya kit which had to built and after a short roll out the cars were placed in a parc ferme for technical inspection. All cars ran with Porsche Bodies and all had to be painted like a real race car so the on track action looks the same as the legendary event at the neighboring Nurburgring which runs on the same weekend. Every Porsche also has to switch on the lights when it gets dark.

Meen V wins final KM HK selection race

The KM World Cup final selection race was held at TRC Race track in Hong Kong and attracted all the top KM drivers from around Asia competing for one of the 3 sponsored trips to the KM World Cup in Thailand in October. Qualifying went the way of Thai driver Meen V driving the KM H-K1 but it was Hang who took the fastest lap of the race with a 19.421 second lap. In the race it was Meen that took the win by a lap from the charging pair of Hung and Charlee P. who finished less than 1.5 seconds apart in 2nd and 3rd place.

Yannick Aigoin wins French EFRA GP

The EFRA GP of Reims took place last weekend at the northern French town and attracted a rather low 66 drivers. With the weather cooperating and sunshine all weekend it was Associated driver Yannick Aigoin that took the pole position ahead of Xray driver Renaud Savoya in 2nd and Agama racer Jerome Sartel in 3rd. The first non French driver was Spaniard Borja Hernandez with the LRP car in 4th. In the semis it was business as usual for the two former European Champions with Aigoin and Savoya winning their respective finals but it was Yannick who would start from pole in the hour long A-main. As the race started Aigoin would cement his dominance on the event by taking the lead and proceeding to pull out an advantage. German Mugen driver Daniel Reckward moved passed Savoya around the 10 minute mark and would maintain in 2nd position for the remainder of the race. Near the half way point Savoya hit trouble and would drop to the back of the pack. This moved Borja Hernandez to 3rd and he would hold on to the final podium position until the final minutes of the race when Sartel would come through to take the spot and complete the podium behind Reckward in 2nd and winner Yannick Aigoin.

IRCC2012 Nagoya Airport race – Announcement

The organisers of the IRCC event that takes place in Japan from the 15th to the 17th of June have been in contact to tell us about this year’s event. The race is unique in that it will be held in Nagoya International airport, in a meeting room near the arrivals section. With the airport having a hotel and restaurants, you wont need to do much traveling and can in fact access the track by foot. After a successful event in 2011 in which current 1/12th world champion Naoto Matsukura won 1/12th and GT class and RC legend Masami Hirosaka entered as a guest driver and won 17.5turns touring class the event is again open to international competitors for almost all electric on road classes in both 1/10th and 1/12th scale. JJ Wang joins Thunder Power RC

Better known as a gas onroad racer new Thunder Power RC signing JJ Wang is making a name for himself throughout China as one of the rising stars of modified touring car and EP offroad. The 14 year old has launched his EP career with a 4th place finish in the FWD class at this year’s TITC race. Stepping up his game, powered by Thunder Power RC, JJ recently won the EP 4WD Short Course Truck and 2WD Buggy classes at the Horizon Hobby Cup. JJ will run Thunder Power RC Z3R motors and batteries to power his 2012-2013 racing season in China and at various International and US electric/LiPo events. JJ had this to say:

I’m very motivated and excited to join the Thunder Power RC team. I think their products have very high quality and I’m looking forward to using them in the upcoming season.

Victory for Robert Pietsch at Austrian GP

Last weekend the Austrian EFRA GP for 1/8th Onroad was held at the 2013 1/8th Euro-B track in Aigen/Schlaegl Austria. Only 28 entries showed up but the reigning world champion Robert Pietsch was also there. A lot of drivers started already with practice on Thursday in perfect weather conditions and on Friday most of the drivers had already arrived for practice. On Saturday the weather changed completely, the whole day with rain for Qualifying and only 2 drivers tried to run on the wet track. Weather for Sunday was good but cold which was very good for the engines and everybody could feel the extra horsepower from the good and fresh air.
