Live RC produced the above video, which was shown during the heritage presentation of the Reedy International Race of Champions that took place last weekend. Showing the history of this famous race we hear from past winners and some of the best racers in the World about what this race means to them.
The 17th Annual Reedy International Off-Road Race of Champions was held at West Coast R/C Raceway in La Mirada, California this past weekend. This would be the first time the Reedy Race has been back in the USA since 2001. The history of this race is truly amazing, starting back in 1987. Previous Invitational winners in attandace for this years event were: Rick Hohwart (1992), Jeremy Kortz (1994), Greg Hodapp (1995), Brian Kinwald 1998/2000), and Ryan Cavalieri (2009). Along with the Invitational Class, the always highly contested 2wd and 4wd Open Classes made for great racing where the winner of each class would be given the opportunity to race in the Invitational Class the following year.

JConcepts and Team Associated driver Tanner Denney driving his B44.1 buggy has won the 4wd open class at the prestigious Reedy Race of Champions this past weekend. After 4 rounds of qualifying Denny sat in the 2nd position on the starting grid but was hungry for more. A dual 10 minute A-main format set the stage for exciting main events with A-2 carrying more weight than A-1 putting even more pressure on the leaders. Tanner found himself in the lead in A-main # 1 and fought a difficult race against TQ Josh Numan but eventually finished in the 2nd position. A-main # 2 would be different, Tanner made a small adjustment in driving style and looked noticeably more comfortable as he took the lead from Numan and drove comfortable and fast. With many lap-times in the low 21 second range and dipping into the 20’s on occasion, Denney had a brilliant drive going. Finishing off the final laps in the lead, Denney felt some pressure from Numan who was just 2 seconds behind. However, Denney would not falter and maintained his lead all the way to the finish line capturing the coveted open title and with it, a ticket to the Invitational class in 2012. Tanner’s B44.1 was decked out with JConcepts Bar Codes in gold compound, Punisher body and 6″ HD rear wing.

The organisers of next month’s Dirt Nitro Challenge in Arizona were in touch to firstly introduce us to the new Dirt girl (above) and secondly to tell us that entries are still open for this awesome annual event. Taking place at the Nitro Pit facility in Witmann, AZ, the event attracts the best offroad drivers in the World and this year will be no exception. This 2011 event is open to both gas & electric buggy as well as truggy and short course classes with the event starting on Wednesday the 23rd of February for practice and running through to Sunday the 27th for the buggy mains. The warm-up for the upcoming indoor EC was held on January 22/23 in Hrotovice, Czech Republic and Martin Hudy produced this report. The warm-up race was organized together with a club race so along with the expected Modified class, there were also Stock and Hobby classes. The race was attended by drivers from Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, and Germany. The race started on Saturday with controlled practice and with one round of qualifiers in the evening. There were 3 rounds of qualifiers held on Sunday and 3 rounds of finals. Team Xray was present at the race to help and support all Xray drivers. The team was represented by Martin and Juraj Hudy, Zdenko Kunak, Zdenek Hamak, and David Ehrbar.

Yokomo were in touch to officially announce their complete European on road team driver line up for 2011. The Japanese manufacturer has been virtually unbeatable this year in Europe with German driver Ronald Volker winning everything, with the exception of the Worlds, in the last 12 months. This kind of success has attracted a number of top level drivers to the team for the new year, including French contingent of Lucas Urbain, Loic Jasmin and Cyril N’Diaye. They join an already strong team which includes Yannic Pruemper, Vijami Kutvonen, Martin Hofer, Daniel Sieber and Michal Bok, the latter just joining the squad last November. Under the guidance of Robert Itoh and Umino Yukijiro we can once again expect Yokomo to perform strongly this season.
Having raced the new Photon touring car for some months now, former European Championship top qualifier and runner up Steven Weiss from Germany has officially joined the T.O.P. racing team. Steven will race the company’s Photon LiPo spec 2011 chassis in touring car as well as the Rebel12 in the 1/12th scale class. Prior to joining T.O.P. he ran for Yokomo which came after a 3 year stint with Xray.

Martin Bayer was in touch to tell us about the Astra Nitrocross event that he is hosting this year from the 1st to the 3rd of July in Slavkov u Brna in the Czech Republic. The event is open to 1/8th scale buggy and, as with the last time the event was run, it is expected to attract a large number of top international racers to this awesome track. Registration opens on the 1st of March and you can find more information on the official event site here.
