Adam Drake wins truggy class at GRRS Rd2

Adam Drake wins truggy class at GRRS Rd2

The second round of the Grass Roots Racing Series race took place at the Thunder Alley Raceway in Beaumont, California. The event had 145 entries and the track will also host the first round of the JBRL Series in a few weeks. The weather was cool in the morning, but warmed up by mid-day to around 80 degrees. The track was hard packed and very technical and it was TLR’s Adam Drake who set the fastest times in nitro buggy and nitro truggy. In the truck final he took off from pole position and never looked back to take the win by two laps.  In the buggy final Adam battled with Drew Moller early, but was able to put in clean and consistent laps and had almost a lap lead with 5 minutes to go when he ran into steering servo problems that hindered his pace so we went on to finish second behind Drew Moller. Cody Smith finished third to make it a Pro-Line tire 1, 2 and 3 on the podium.

Thanks to Adam Drake for sending the report.

Last weekend saw the last race of the Finntrack Championship in icy Finland. The race took place in the town of Mynamaki, near Turku. The Prostock class has been the most competitive in the series, with way over 60 racers. The four race series saw four different winners and the races proved to be ultra competitive with just one to two tenths of a second per lap separating about 15 top racers from each others. Team EuroRC/Yokomo has been pretty solid from the first race to the last, with a really strong team and the new BD7 car. The series was finally won by Team EuroRC/Yokomo BD7 driver Tomi Mairue. Tomi drove a solid series with three second place finishes and one win placing him in front of Arto Heinonen’s Serpent and Jarkko Mustonen, who also drove Yokomo BD7.

DJ Apolaro wins at Copa Del Pacifico

DJ Apolaro wins at Copa Del Pacifico

The Copa Del Pacifico was run in Peru at a very demanding permanent on-road track with extreme bumps and very high traction. During the qualifiers the race was on between DJ Apolaro and Pablo Morganti, both posted very quick times and it was Pablo who took TQ for the semifinals the fastest drivers had to go through as there was no direct qualification. DJ had used the qualifiers to work on the car setup for the final and his strategy should pay off as he ended up with a fast and easy to drive car whereas Pablo seemed to struggle with setup. From the beginning of the A main DJ was able to pull away from the field and even a tire change and a stripped belt in the closing minutes of the race did not stop the Capricorn driver who won the race seven laps ahead of Pablo Morganti with Fabrizio Martello taking the position on the podium.

Spanish 1/8th EP buggy nationals report

Spanish 1/8th EP buggy nationals report

Last weekend the first round of the Spanish 1/8th off-road nationals took place at the new RC La Nucia track. Being of a high-speed design with some smaller double and triple jump sections setup was crucial. After the qualifying Serpent driver Sergio Martinez took TQ followed by Daniel Vega (Agama) and local driver Toni Alcalá (Serpent). The finals were a bit chaotic because the track became bumpy meaning drivers could run into errors easily. At the end European Champion Daniel Vega had the pace to win the race followed by TQ driver Sergio Martínez, and Alberto García (Serpent).
