Volker takes win as Matsukura takes title in Japan

Volker takes win as Matsukura takes title in Japan

The JMRCA Japanese Electric touring car Nationals took place last weekend in the Okayama prefecture. Originally, the race was scheduled to run from Friday to Sunday, however a hurricane developed off the southern-most coast of Japan, eventually tracking northward hitting the tracks location on Friday. The event was unfortunately rained out until Sunday, where the JMRCA decided to run 1 controlled practice and 4 qualifying rounds to determine the winner in both Super Expert (modified) and Open (stock 13.5T) classes. Winner for the last two years, Ronald Volker ended up TQing, and taking the overall win for a third time as no finals were to be run. Naoto Matsuskura finished second, but was crowned the new Japanese National Champion as only Japanese citizens can take the National title. Xray driver Takayuki Inoue rounded out the top 3 just as he did last year.

Tessmann wins 4wd & 1/8EP at Surf City Classic

Tessmann wins 4wd & 1/8EP at Surf City Classic

Last weekend Ty Tessmann attended the Surf City Classic race in southern California and was entered in invite 2wd, invite 4wd and invite 1/8 electric buggy. The Tessmann team sent us this report. Practice went very well for Ty, we established a good baseline setup for all three cars and felt confident going into qualifying on Saturday. Overnight the track dried out so by Saturday morning the locals determined that slicks would be the best tire to run, though traction came up very quickly throwing a bit of a twist into things. First up for Ty was the 2wd invite class, even though Ty’s car wasn’t quite perfect he qualified a respectable 3rd in the first round, he TQ’d the first round of invite 4wd and TQ’d the first round of invite 1/8 electric. It was obvious though that our setups needed to be changed, the traction was much higher than it had been the day before during practice. Every round we made setup changes to the car to keep him on pace. In 2wd we struggled with setup but Ty managed to qualify 5th overall, in 4wd Ty TQ’d every round putting him on the pole for the main Sunday, 1/8 electric went the same way with Ty tq’ing every round and starting on the pole.

Ari Heinonen secures Finnish National title

Last weekend the last two races of the 4-race Finnish National Championship series were held in Vantaa. Ari Heinonen (JQ/JQ) was able to secure the Championship win ahead of Teemu Leino (Xray/LRP) and Jarno Siltanen (Mugen/Ninja), by finishing 2nd in the 3rd race, and winning the final race on Sunday ahead of Teemu Leino. This means that JQ Products have won the championship 2 years in a row now, with Joseph Quagraine winning the championship last year with the pre-production car. JQ couldn’t attend this year’s race due to being in hospital with appendicitis.

Joe Kerry takes BRCA 200mm Rd6 in Scotland

Joe Kerry takes BRCA 200mm Rd6 in Scotland

Round 6 of the British 200mm Nationals were held this past weekend at the excellent Stonehaven circuit in Scotland. Saturday’s practice was held under dry conditions despite the forecast being for rain and traction was ok to start off with and it wasn’t long before all cars were up to racing pace. Due to the nature of the Stonehaven track, tyre wear is really high so many drivers worked on trying to reduce this for Sunday’s finals. Due to overnight rain qualifying was run under damp and greasy conditions and saw Joe Kerry win all 4 rounds of to take the TQ spot with his Serpent 733. Shortly before the final was due to start the track rapidly dried up so there was a rush in the pits to true some dry tyres for the final. As the final started Joe got an excellent start off the line and had already lapped the entire field within a few minutes. Joe lead every second of the race and in the end won a full 3 laps clear of second placed Alex Thurston who drove very well to finish one second in front of Adam Catchpole who took third. With this result Joe now moves into first place of the British 200mm Championship. Round 7 will take place at the very tight and technical Colchester circuit in 2 weeks time.

Thanks to Joe Kerry for the update.
