Matt Sistrunk takes all at I-20 series Rd1

Last weekend was the first round of the I-20 series in Monroe, Louisiana. Racers from all over the area came to a freshly built track at Full Throttle Raceway. With the rain during the week the Track crew had some work ahead of them. By the time qualifiers started the track was in great shape. The Battle for TQ was close but TLR driver Matt “Puddin” Sistrunk took the top spot in buggy followed closely by TLR privateer Denver Houghton. Following the start of the main it was a three car battle with Denver taking the early lead followed by Matt and Allen McCoy. Matt and Denver battled for the lead the entire race with Allen in the shadows waiting for them to mess up. Matt passed Denver on the last lap of the race and they crossed the line .05 apart with Matt taking the win, Denver in 2nd and HB driver Allen McCoy in 3rd. In Truggy Matt started 3rd with Steve Traxler taking TQ. Matt took the lead in early going and never looked back, winning from the HB pairing of Jeff Gray in 2nd and Steve Traxler in 3rd.

Huang Yi-Hao wins 200mm Rd1 in Taiwan

The first round of the Taiwanese on-road national championship was held last weekend at the Tainan GTR Racing Track and attracted close to 80 drivers in 3 different classes 1/10th GP, 1/8th GP and 1/10th EP. Serpent Taiwan driver Huang Yi-Hao took his S733 to the expert class TQ, setting a best lap time of 17.6 seconds, which would be a new class track record. He went on to take the win in the final ahead of Xray NT1 driver Howard Cho in 2nd with another Serpent S733, that of Ji-Chen Ton, in 3rd. The 1/8th GP class was won by top qualifier Wing Wang Sang-Chun ahead of Yang Chong Zha in 2nd and Shu Jhi Hao in 3rd, while in the 1/10th EP class it was Leo Chan who took victory from pole position, with Zen Wen-Pin in 2nd and Ron Chen in 3rd.

Toshiki wins 2011 CRC cup

The 2011 CRC cup was held at one of the finest carpet venues in Japan, the Crest speedway Race facility in Gunma Prefecture. The CRC cup is an open race for all 1/12th pan car to participate in that is sponsored by Team CRC Japan. 43 drivers participated in this race, including three from the quake-stricken area of the country. Following qualifying it was CRC driver Hayato that took the TQ ahead of team mate Toshiki in 2nd. In the final the places were reversed with Toshiki taking the win ahead of Hayato in 2nd.

Taiwanese Nationals Rd1 win for Yu-Yuan Chen

The newly formed Taiwan Radio Control Car Association (T.R.C.C.A.) held the first round of the first Taiwanese 1/8 Off Road National Championships last weekend. This Association is approved by the Taiwanese government and organized by most of the Taiwanese RC brands and factories including Team Titan, HongNor, S-Workz, GS Racing, GO engines, PR Racing, Force engine, IN-tech racing, RC Tech magazine and KingStar Racing. The race itself saw a total of 92 drivers attend this race and after qualifying in the expert class, the TQ went to HongNor driver Yu-Yuan Chen. Chen would also go on to win the A final followed by Agama driver Hou-Cai Liu in 2nd and Team C driver Sheng-Jie Huang 3rd.

Sadikin Sutrisno wins Rd3 of Indonesian Nats

The 3rd round of 1/8 Indonesian National Championship 2011 was held in JITC track in Senayan last weekend. With cloudy weather, the rain poured at the middle of heat 1 and so the organizer had to re-run the qualifying round when the track had dried. It was Teddy Syach took the TQ spot with his Mugen MRX5, with 20 laps @ 5.14 followed by Sadikin Sutrisno, driving an Xray RX8 with 20 laps @ 5.16. Provisional standings leader, Bowie Ginting (Xray RX8) was 3rd, coming so close to reaching 20 laps with 19 laps @ 5.00. Hendry and Toni Kundjung, both ran Mugen MRX5, completed the top 5 qualifying result.

Kyle Branson dominant at Brooklands National

Round 1 of the 2011 BRCA 1/8th scale on road championship was held over the Easter weekend at the Brooklands raceway in Kent. This track comprises of the longest straight in the UK and is very hard on the engines, and so resulted in the majority of the competitors deciding to run the engines slightly rich to ensure engine life but this required a fuel stop in qualifying. With most of EFRA running 7 minute Heats, the BRCA decided to stay with 5 minute heats which may prove advantageous to drivers who have fuel efficient engines during the season.

Josh Pain dominates Australian Nationals

The Australian electric buggy Nationals were held the previous weekend at the WCMRC facility in Perth, Western Australia. In the 2wd modified class it was Josh Pain that took his Kyosho Ultima RB5 to the TQ spot and proceeded to win the first 2 A-mains to claim the National title ahead of Darren Johnston in 2nd and Michael McDonnell in 3rd. In the 4wd modified class it was Josh Pain once again, who top all qualifiers to start from the pole position. He had to work harder for the win this time and needed to go to the 3rd leg to claim to title ahead of Josh Taylor in 2nd, with Chris Bowich in 3rd.

Yannick Aigoin takes Rd2 of French Nationals

Round 2 of the French 1/8th scale buggy nationals took place in Reims in the north of the country and it was bright sunny weather that greeted the competitors, a change from the wet conditions that forced the finals in round 1 to be cancelled. With a lot of French racers competing at this weekend’s Neo 11 race, Rd1 winner Jerome Aigoin being one of those, only a handful of the top drivers were present, hoping to get some all important points. Qualifying went the way of Losi driver Yannick Aigoin ahead of Durango team driver Renaud Savoya who came over from Dallas for the event. Jerome Couchon, Sebastian Wartelle and Tony Robin completed the top 5. With no major problems in the semis, the top two placed on the grid for the main final remained the same. In the final Savoya hit problems early one with a suspected locked wheel, which dropped him out of contention. Yannick cruised up front and took the victory by nearly 2 laps ahead of Romain Valter driving a Mugen with Kyosho driver Tony Robin in 3rd, 8 seconds further back.
