Drake wins Union Rescue Mission Toys for Toys event

Last weekend’s Union Rescue Mission Toys for Tots event had over one hundred entries with some of the fastest racers in California coming out to race and help raise money for a great charity. The weather and track conditions at Revelation Raceway were great. In the 1/8th pro buggy class it was TLR / Novarossi’s Adam Drake who set the TQ in both rounds of qualifying. In the final, Drake checked out and won the final followed by teammate Matt Schreffler in second and Barry Baker in third. In the 1/8th pro truck class Adam Drake TQ’d round one, but in round two Phillip Atondo won the heat and set TQ for the event with his Novarossi powered 8ight T 2.0. In the final, Phillip and Adam pulled away from the rest of the field and had an amazing battle until the nine minute mark when Phillip had a problem with his switch. Adam then cruise to victory followed by teammate Matt Schreffler in 2nd.

PRCR 2nd Annual Toys for Tots Race

Portland R/C Raceway’s 2nd Annual Toys for Tots Race was held this past weekend in Clackamas, Oregon. Last year PRCR helped collect a lot of toys for underprivelaged children and was looking to hopefully bring in even more this year. Racers came from as far as central Washington to attend this great event, with entries reaching 96, making it bigger than last years event. The PRCR staff provided snacks all day long that was enjoyed by all the racers. The race format consisted of two 5-minute qualifiers using the rocket round format. After qualifying, lower main bump-ups were run, taking the top 2 drivers from the B’s into the A’s. The top 6 drivers from qualifying made it straight into the Triple A-Main Events. This making it an 8 car field to battle it out for the overall win.

Bloomfield wins with TLR22 on UK debut

Bloomfield wins with TLR22 on UK debut

Team Losi are reporting that round 3 of the Taplow R/C Car club’s winter championship was to be the first public race meeting of the TLR22 outside of the USA. Some of the most respected racers in the UK including the current double European champion Lee Martin and the current BRCA 1:10 and 1:8 national champions Tom Cockerill and Darren Bloomfield took to the indoor track just outside of Slough in what turned out to be an epic meeting and a fitting UK debut for the TLR 22. All 3 UK TLR 22 cars qualified into the top 10 in 2WD but with 8 car finals, it was the 3rd car of Andy Carter that had to settle for poling the B-final.  Up at the sharp end though, it was the TLR22 of Darren Bloomfield who lined up 2nd on the grid alongside current EFRA European Champion Lee Martin with Tom Cockerill and David Poulter locking out the 2nd row of the grid with their Schumacher Cougars and ahead of the 2nd TLR22 of Simon Reeves in 5th and the XXX-CR of Special Agent Richard Barton in 6th place on the 3rd row of the grid.

Billy Fischer heads Losi podium at KBRL Rd3

Billy Fischer heads Losi podium at KBRL Rd3

The KBRL nitro circuit made the latest stop at the world famous Nitro Pit. TLR drivers Billy Fischer, Casey Peck, and Chris Wheeler were on hand to take on AZ’s finest nitro racers. Billy Fischer proved he was the guy to beat and TQ’d both rounds of expert buggy, earning him the first position on the grid with his 2.0 buggy. At the sound of the tone for the 20 minute A main Billy was able to take control, but had Peck within striking distance.  After the first pit stop Casey took the lead and the battle ensued. After swapping the lead numerous times, Billy went on a hot streak. He strung a bunch of fast laps together and Casey did not have a snow ball’s chance, as Fischer took the convincing win. Peck brought his 2.0 buggy home in the second spot. After a tough start, Wheeler was able to fight his way back to third and rounded out the Losi podium.

Skelding wins Team Durango Winter Series Rd2

Skelding wins Team Durango Winter Series Rd2

Round 2 of the Team Durango Winter Series took place on Sunday 28th November and despite the bitterly cold temperatures, 110 drivers attended the event. The track for this round of the series featured much less high grip carpet than round 1. The carpet of the touring car track had been rolled away leaving the wooden boarding as the racing surface for the majority of the track. This surface gave a medium level of grip, allowing the cars to slide around a little. Other surfaces were used, there was a carpet section at the start of the straight and the huge table top jump in front of the rostrum was also carpeted. There was a slippy surfaced hairpin on the corner before the wall ride. The table top was a new feature this time and saw the cars getting some big air time. As well as this feature there were four smaller jumps around the track.
