Óscar Cabezas claims National title with Rd4 win

Óscar Cabezas claims National title with Rd4 win

Last weekend saw the 4th and final round of the Spanish 1:8th scale On Road Championships run at the Club Arca in Madrid and it was Merlin Team driver Oscar Cabezas that took the victory, TQ and overall Championship. Driving his Motonica, Óscar dominated the race from the beginning, being the only driver able to set 18 laps and moreover he won the 4 qualifying heats. However the Main final, was not as easy as the final result shows. Óscar had a flame out early on that made him change his strategy and he even run out of fuel in the middle of the final. Nevertheless his pace was so strong and consistent that he could keep the 1st position until the the final flag. With this Victory, Óscar claims the National title with 2 victories and 2 second places. Josué Artiles finished on 2nd in both the last race and the overall championship. In fact, both Oscar and Josue finished the season with the same 1,893 points, however Oscar’s worst classification was a 2nd while Artiles worst was a 3rd. This gives an idea about the how tight the fight was between both drivers in recent years.

Tobias Hepp in the 1/8 class and Sebastian Buerge in the 1/10 class are the first champions in the newly established NRW Challenge (NRW = German State North Rhine-Westphalia), a series of three races held in the last three month on the permanent tracks of Dueren, Oberhausen and Bad Breisig. A total of 72 racers, 32 in 1/8 scale and 40 in the 1/10 200mm category entered the three races which all were held at positive atmosphere and with hot racing action. The main characteristic of this new championship has been long races with 30 minutes for semis and 45 minutes for the finals. These unusual long and exhausting racing times have been highly accepted by the drivers and a new experience for most of them. The NRW Challenge will be continued in 2010 with three to five races administered through the whole season.

Adrien Bernsten wins Norwegian Championships

Adrien Bernsten wins Norwegian Championships

Very late in the season, at the beginning of October, the Norwegian Championship 1:8th scale IC track was held at the Hvervenbukta Raceway in Oslo, which was the venue for the Euros back in 2003.  Despite cold and humid conditions the fastest laptime in practise was 12,65 sec which is below the track record from 2001. Unfortunately it rained during the night and on the morning of the race day most of the race was run under wet or semi wet conditions. Shepherd racer Adrian Berntsen already showed his strong performance during qualifying by winning every single qualifying round and taking the TQ for the 45 min final in front of Lars Haugen, Arntzen Erik and Helge Johannson. The final could be started under dry conditions and Adrian showed a perfect performance leading from start to finish. Besides the fuel stops only 7 laptimes out of 191 were over 14,000 sec with the best lap being a 13,503. With a gap of 4 laps he crossed the finishing line in first position in front of  Lars Haugen (Mugen) and Rasch-Olsen Frode (Mugen).

Stiles does the Double At BRCA 1/12th Rd1

Last weekend saw round one of this winter’s BRCA 1/12th scale nationals take place in Crewe. The most notable of these was Olly Jefferies, who will be driving an Associated R5.1 in this year’s championship. Last years champion Elliott Harper and former European Champion Andy Moore will also be at the next round, but were absent at this meeting due to International racing commitments.
