Mark Pavidis wins Short Course at Cactus Classic

Last weekend’s Cactus Classic race saw AKA debut their two new SC tires, which we wrote about previously, the Wishbone and the Enduro at the event. Mark Pavidis posted the fastest time in Short Course qualifying and started in second for the main. Two laps into the 15 minute final Mark took the lead and never looked back. Mark took the top spot on the podium followed by team mate Joe Pillars who finished third overall. Some competitors questioned using the small Wishbone tread on such a high bite and abrasive track condition, but the pictures prove that AKA’s long wearing proprietary rubber compounds proved the competition wrong and finished with tread to spare.

Vesa Yli extends series lead with FinTrack Rd3 win

The 3rd round of the FinTrack Tour nationals was held last weekend in Kiiminki, near the city of Oulu in Northern Finland. Most of the 1/12 tops were attending, with names like Simo Ahoniemi, Teemu Saarinen, Tony Raikas, Tom Kalves, Viljami Kutvonen, Panu Vehniainen and of course championship leader Vesa Yli from the organizing club, OSPA. The venue was a big school sports hall with plenty of room for pitting and spectators. The track was a bit different from other tracks used in FinTrack series as track was 90% surrounded by tubes which is not so usual in Finland. So for 1/12 the track was ideal by being pretty technical but for touring it was a bit narrow with its 2m width.

Renaud Savoya takes Australian National title

Renaud Savoya takes Australian National title

The Australian buggy Nationals took place last week at the SDMCC track in Adelaide. It was French Mugen/RB driver Renaud Savoya, who is currently residing in Australia, that took the TQ spot following qualifying having also led the way in practice. The semi finals was more of the same from the double European Champion, who cruised through his race to take the pole position for the main event lining up ahead of Kyle McBride who had won the other semi. In the main Renaud didn’t have it all his own way at the start with fellow Mugen racer McBride piling on the pressure. It wasn’t to last though and by the closing stages Renaud had lapped the field as early contender Craig Luaghton dropped out with a flat RX pack, and McBride had his transponder stop counting. The final two laps however were to add a bit of drama as the French man damaged his car and had to limp it home allowing 2nd place finisher Matt Griffin to claw a lap back, but there wasn’t enough time to do more and the positions remained the same. Andrew Gillot driving a Losi 8ight took the final step on the podium.
