Iñaky Pahissa wins Spanish 1/10th Nats Rd1

Last weekend saw the Cerdanyola Modelcar Track, play host to the 1st round of the Spanish 1/10th scale 200mm National Championship. The event drew 84 drivers ready to open 2009 season and following qualifying it was Xabier Arana who had taken the TQ, followed by Rodrigo Pahissa, Iñaky Pahissa and Johnny Pastor. The main Final was clearly dominated by Xray driver Iñaky Pahissa who took the first position after the first refuelling and kept it for the whole race. The fight for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th places was very interesting and we saw 5 drivers fighting and swapping positions trying to reach the final podium places. In the end it was Kyosho driver Ramón Guasch that took 2nd ahead of another Xray driver Rodrigo Pahissa in 3rd, who also made the fastest lap in the final and set an new track record. Both Rodrigo and Iñaky Pahissa used Merlin fuel to power their Max Power engines.

Basile Concialdi wins French 10th Nats Rd1

The opening round of the French 1/10th scale Nationals took place last weekend in Monteux in the south of France. The weather was dry all weekend with 18 degrees temperatures on the finals day and there was 87 drivers in attendance, split between Elite and National classes. In the Elite class, it was Thomas Eytard who took the top spot in qualifying from Mikael Pontal in 2nd and Thomas Desmaries claiming 3rd, while in the National class it was Anthony Bruyer who claimed TQ ahead of local racers Jérôme Di Crocco and Thomas Corréard. In the Elite final the first 20 minutes saw the race still wide open to a number of front runners with Thomas Desmaries leading the way. At the 30 minute mark a lot of drivers came in for a tire stop with Chaussard doing all 4 and the leader Desmaries only doing the rear tires. Basile Concialdi would not change any tires and could take the lead and with it the win, with Chaussard taking 2nd and Maxime Favrel 3rd, all 3 drivers with the Xray NT1. In the National final it was all about the pole man Anthony Bruyer, who cruised to victory in front of Thomas Correard in 2nd and J-Paptiste Geneau in 3rd.

Adrien Bertin wins French 8th Nats Rd1

The opening round of the French 1/8th scale National series was held last weekend in Toulouse in the south west of France, close to Spain. The race saw 63 drivers entered separated between Elite and National classes and the weather for the event was cold but dry for most of the event. Qualifying for the Elite class saw Team Orion engine man Adrien Bertin, driving a Kyosho, take the pole position for the main final in front of Sebastian Zatla in 2nd and Stéphane Bouche 3rd, while in the National class it was Maxime Tenet who started 1st ahead of Philippe Regolle in 2nd and Jérémy Cassagne 3rd. Following the semi finals the main finals got underway and in the Elite class it was Bertin and Bouche who lead away, remaining like this up until the 15 minute mark when there was some light rain which made some drivers pit for new tires, something Bertin didn’t do and he could stretch his lead to win by 3 laps from Bouche in 2nd and Laurent Zatla in 3rd. In the National class it was local driver Jérémy Cassagne that took the lead and stretched out a gap, and despite the engine stopping once, could maintain his lead and take the win by a lap from Gérald Colinet in 2nd and Maxime Tenet in 3rd.

Wilck & Andersson take Swedish National titles

Wilck & Andersson take Swedish National titles

Last weekend saw the Swedish 1/10th and 1/12th scale National Championships held at the Borås MRK in Viskafors. In the 1/10th scale modified class it was Tamiya TRF factory driver Viktor Wilck that took the TQ ahead of Xray racer Alexander Hagberg and Magnus Vässmar taking up 2nd and 3rd on the grid. In the finals Wilck could win the first and 2nd legs to secure the overall championship, while Hagberg encountered some problems which meant he couldn’t challenge for the win and had to settle for 2nd in both the opening legs, winning the 3rd after Viktor didn’t take the start. In the 1/12th scale modified class there were some very fast drivers in attendance such as Alexander Andersson, Mikael Fransson and Per-Ola Hård and in qualifying it was Alexander Andersson that took the TQ ahead of Per-Ola Hård in 2nd and Mikael Fransson in 3rd. In the finals CRC driver Andersson won the first and 2nd legs to take overall victory from Rosén Maxx in 2nd and Per-Ola Hård 3rd.

Czech EP TC Winter Championship Rd1

The opening round of the Czech EP TC Winter Championship took place last weekend in Trutnov, Czech Republic and was attended by 93 racers across 4 classes, Modified, Stock, 1/12th and 1/18th. The event also hosted the 2nd round of the Open Tour Trutnov series and this was won in both Stock and Modified by 14 times Czech champion Martin Korinek racing an Xray. In the Winter Championship Stock class it was Hot Bodies racer Jakub Plechac that topped the timesheets after qualifying and went on to win all 3 A-main legs to take the overall from Serpent racer Tomas Svoboda in 2nd and last years Winter Champion Vojtech Novicky racing for Xray in 3rd. In the Modified category there was a big fight between current Winter Champion Michal Bok racing for Xray and Summer Champion Zdenek Hamak with Hot Bodies, but in the third round of qualification it was Michal who was quickest and took TQ. In the finals, the first leg went to Zdenek, but in the second and third leg Michal was lucky and was able to take the overall with Zdenek finishing in 2nd, with the final step of the podium going to Jan Moravek. The championship continues in two weeks in Prague, capital of the Czech Republic and it will finish in Trebic in the middle of March.

Jovanovic clean sweep at NZ Gas Nats

The 2009 New Zealand On road Gas Nationals took place last weekend at the Ruapuna Raceway hosted by the Canterbury Radio Control Car Club and in attendance were several Australians including Peter and Steven Jovanovic. In the 1/10th scale class it was Steven and Peter Jovanovic that took 1st and 2nd respectively both running Kyosho chassis’, while in 3rd place was Mark Harling with the Xray NT1. In 1/8th scale there was another dominant performance by the Jovanovics, this time with Peter taking the win from Steven, both driving Motonica, with Selywn Duthie taking 3rd place driving a Mugen.

2008 RCMC Singapore Nats Prizegiving

The trophy presentation for the 2008 RCMC Singapore National Championships took place last weekend during the first round of the 2009 series. In the 1/8th Nitro On road series it was Tay Wui Kiat driving a Novarossi powered Motonica P8R that took the title ahead of Serpent racer Erwin Luhur in 2nd, while Shepherd driver Don Chng took 3rd. In 1/10th 200mm it was Philip Lee driving a Sirio engined Kyosho RRR that took the National crown in front of team mates Ben Seet in 2nd and Terence Chung in 3rd.

Scotty Gray takes ROAR Region 4 win

Scotty Gray takes ROAR Region 4 win

Last weekend the ROAR Region 4 Super Regional On-Road Championship took place at the Homestead RC Speedway in Homestead, Florida. Friday saw a lot of racers already at the track looking to find the best setup for qualifying. In Saturday’s qualifying Shepherd driver Scotty Gray put in an impressive performance in the last round of qualifying to secure the TQ position for the A-main, 4 seconds clear of 2nd placed driver Danny Horta, while Paolo Morganti took 3rd. From the start of the 45min final it was obvious that it was going to be between Scotty and Paolo, the pair dicing back and forth. At around the half way point Paolo had to retire with mechanical problems, so Scotty could relax and cruise home to the victory, 9 laps over the 2nd placed Sean Lue with Rafael Angulo taking the 3rd spot.
