Siegfried wins French 1/8 Nats Rd5

The 5th and final round of the French 1/8th scale Nationals were run last weekend in Niort under dry sunny conditions. In the Elite class it was Richard Volta that took the TQ from Stephane Bouche in 2nd and Adrien Siegfried in 3rd, just ahead of Jacky Mouton who was making a one off return to 1/8th scale racing in 4th. In the final it was Volta that took a commanding position at the front of the race, with fellow title hopeful Siegfried in 2nd place. The German 1/10th scale nationals were held last weekend at the Hamm track and wet weather limited running on the Saturday’s qualifying runs. With only 2 runs that mattered it was European B Champion Dirk Wischnewski that took the top spot from Sebastian Bürge, Rene Püpke and Frederik Südhof. In the final Dirk was never challenged and went on to win from Xray team mates Ralf Krause and Robert Pietsch.

Claus Ryeskov wins Danish Nationals

Claus Ryeskov wins Danish Nationals

Round 7 of the Danish on road Championship were held at Hillerød Banen last weekend. Martin Lissau and Martin Christensen had done very well at the WC in Portugal but for National title honors it was Xray NT1 driver Claus Ryeskov who was heading for the overall 2008 national title. Saturday’s qualifying sessions were run under sunny conditions and after the 4 rounds it was Martin Lissau who took the TQ from Xray team mates Martin Christensen in 2nd and Ryeskov in 3rd, with No. Hansen in 4th. The weather remained dry on Sunday and to win the overall title Claus needed 2 more points than Kyosho driver Martin No. Hansen, so it was to be a very interesting 45 minutes final. After an intense fight for 2nd place Claus Ryeskov just managed to take runner up spot behind Lissau and with Hansen taking 4th Claus who could claim the overall title.

Bosmann wins Dutch Nomac class Rd5

Bosmann wins Dutch Nomac class Rd5

We reported on the NK class at last weekend’s 5th Dutch 1/8th scale National round in Gouda, but also running on the same day was the Nomac class. TQ was set by the young local driver Jeffrey Rietveld followed by Tim Bosmann, Peter van Marion and on 4th spot Stefan Koenders. Following the semi finals that were won by Roelof Tooms and Sander Tersteeg, the final got underway and immediately it was Jefrey that took the lead with Tim Bosman on his tail. Peter v Marion and Stefan Koenders were battling it out for the 3rd spot, but Stefan made a mistake and went over the fence where he lost a lot of time, while Peter v. Marion also hit trouble later on. This all allowed last placed qualifier Roelof Tooms in to 3rd spot, but a collision right near the end allowed Sander Tersteeg up into 3rd, behind eventual winner Tim Bosmann, with Jeffrey Rietveld taking 2nd.

Thanks to Roelof Toems for the report.

Báez & Laureano take Rd9 in Puerto Rico

We received a brief race report from round 9 of the Puerto Rico National Championships run on the newly resurfaced Barceloneta RC Speedway which also has a re-designed layout. Mugen team driver Andy Báez took the Sedan class TQ establishing a new track record with 14 laps in 5:19 and also took the 1/8 class TQ with 14 laps in 5:01 establishing a track record in that class as well. In the outlaw class it was another Mugen team driver Pedro Javier Laureano who TQ’d with 13 laps in 5:06 (new track record) but the rain came down before the finals and the results were taken from qualifying positions giving Andy and Pedro the wins in the major classes.

John Ermen wins Dutch 8th Nats Rd5

John Ermen wins Dutch 8th Nats Rd5

The 5th round of the Dutch 1/8th scale nationals was just held in Gouda, a very tight and small track in the centre of the Netherlands. The weather on Saturday was a bit disappointing, because of rain the practice was reduced to only 2 hours in the afternoon. On Sunday the weather was a lot more forgiving and the sun was shining but still a bit cold because of the wind, but this was good for fuel consumption. Qualifying saw Mugen racer Rick V take the pole position ahead of Serpent racer John Ermen in 2nd, with Rik Veenma and Miquel Hereijgers rounding out the top 4. After some semi final action Ilia van Gastel and Daniel van der Drift, who both experienced some difficulties during qualifying, also lined up in the final together with Joey Sorber, Peter Ceysens, Marcel Schouten and Arie Manten.

Jason Frost wins UK 1/8th Nats Rd8

Jason Frost wins UK 1/8th Nats Rd8

The 8th round of the BRCA 1/8th scale National championships took place last weekend in Mendip. Qualification was extremely close with 4 seconds separating the top 6 places. Neil Diver and Andy North set the early pace in round 1, just failing to make 20 laps after Mark Green suffered from radio problems. In round 3 with the track slower due to higher temperatures, Mark Green made 20 laps to take TQ. In the final Mark blasted away and created a small gap. Andy North was in second but ended up down to last after a racing incident, while up front Jason Frost was catching Green waiting for a little mistake which happened and dropped him down the order. Tim Wood was then on a charge but just not quick enough to catch Jason who came home first for his second BRCA victor, stopping the Serpent domination of the Championship so far this season, while Chris Heath continued his consistency with a comfortable 3rd place finish.

Thanks to Andy North for the report and pictures.
