2014 Team Associated Top Gun Shootout – Report

The third Annual Team Associated Top Gun Shootout takes its name from the famous Top Gun Navy fighter school located just across the street in Miramar, CA. And while there weren’t any Maverick or Goose sightings, Team Associated did bring out their top guns with World Champions Ryan Cavalieri, Brian Kinwald, and Steven Hartson all in attendance. Much like the popular 80’s movie, there were also some rookies looking to make a splash against the established veterans of the industry.

On the Grapevine – Luxembourg Hockenheim & Austin

On the Grapevine – Luxembourg, Hockenheim & Austin Some things need to be experienced in order to be truly appreciated. One of Formula 1′s most famous corners is Spa-Francorchamps’ Eau-rouge, which seeing it on television does no justice to the true gradient of this spectacular piece of Belgian race track. I have had the pleasure of travelling to Spa a number of times with work and each time I was taken a back by the scale of the climb cars make racing up Eau-rouge. My first trip there was with two drivers I was promoting, one of whom was racing there for the first time in a round of the European Formula Ford Championship. Like any driver making their first visit to a track and having clocked up hours learning it on the Playstation he wanted to check it out for real but at 7km long and it getting late walking it was not really an option. The next best thing was to borrow his team’s pit bike and together with his race engineer they set off for a sighting lap which while on a 50cc was never going to be quick would beat walking but it wasn’t long before they found themselves on foot. Half way up the famous corner the bike simply ran out of steam with both of them having to jump off – thats how steep it is. The reason for reminiscing is that this rather funny moment came back into my head when I travelled to Round 5 of the Euro Touring Series in Luxembourg.

Geoffrey Vekemans wins at Belgium on-road nats Rd3

During the 3rd round of the Belgium electric on-road championship Geoffrey Vekemans took the pole position from Athan De Witte in 2nd, Dylan Senaeve in 3rd and Emmanuel Van Ackere in 4th. Geoffrey had a good start in the first final, but made a mistake while Olivier, coming from 5th on the grid, stormed into the lead. Geoffrey soon came back and put the pressure on Olivier with the result of both having a coming together on the straight sending Olivier into the off. With great sportsmanship Geoffrey waited until Olivier recovered. Dylan took advantage of the situation and crossed the finish line in 1st place followed by Olivier and Geoffrey.

David Ronnefalk wins at Swedish 1/8th off-road cup

The Swedish 1/8th off-road Cup took place this past weekend despite the weather forecast “promising” questionable racing conditions. Before the race discussions came up to postpone the event until later in the year but finally the decision was made to go ahead as planned. Saturday started with 2 rounds of practice on a wet track followed by 5 rounds of qualifying. Finally 3 rounds of more or less dry qualifiers could be completed until the rain started to fall again in in round 4. Due to the pouring rain the 5th and final qualifier was cancelled, meaning 2 out of 4 rounds would count for the qualification, handing Christoffer Svensson the TQ while David Ronnefalk, one of the pre-race favourites, had a hard time in qualifying, sitting in 8th position.
