Volker wins 2025 Asian Onroad Championship

Ronald Volker was the dominant force at a rain effected 2025 Asian Onroad Championship, the Mugen Seiki driver taking the TQ & win at the stand alone event hosted at the impressive GRC Raceway in Korea.  With this year’s event attracting an impressive international entry led by the Axon of 2024 Champion Akio Sobue, due to rain the main action would end up being condensed into a single day made up of 3 rounds of qualifying and double Mains.  Topping all three qualifiers, Volker claimed the TQ ahead of Ji Heon Yoo, Sobue and Alexander Hagberg.  In the finals Volker’s domination continued as he won A1 by over 3-seconds from the Xray of Hagberg and the Awesomatix of Marc Rheinard, a spin on the opening lap by Heon Yoo dropping him down the order.  In A2, Volker won by an even more impressive 7-second margin from Sobue with Rheinard again P3 but overall it would be Hagberg and Sobue who joined Volker on the podium.   In 17.5 Boosted, EC Maker’s Zaccheus Lam took the TQ & win while in FWD Yong Wan Choi was the winner.

2025 1:10 Offroad World C/ships Chassis Focus Index

It is one of those World Championships that will be etched in the memories of everyone for many years to come both in terms of the dirt track racers got to race on, the new World Champions that were crowned, and the great efforts of the Hills RC Off Road track to put on a World class event that marked the 40th anniversary of the 1:10 Offroad World Championships.  Thanks to Radbody, Red RC was able to make the trip Down Under and witness the crowning of two new World Champions – Broc Champlin giving Schumacher their first title in 2WD and Marus Kaerup taking the Team Associated’s tally to 35 with his 4WD victory!!  As we experienced during our coverage of the recent inaugural 1:8 Electric Buggy World Championships in Portugal, manufacturers where being protective of the set-ups/new parts and again we had to wait till after racing was complete to get to photograph some of the buggies.  The most exciting Chassis Focus would be the brand new Mugen Seiki 4WD.  While it has been raced before by Burak Kilic at the European Championship, we were honoured to get the permission of its designer Shin Adachi to unveil his latest work to the World.  Kyosho came to Australia with some new designs for its upcoming 4WD buggy release but they were not quite ready to unveil it to the World.  We managed to photograph buggies from 6 manufacturers including the two winning buggies and we have compiled the 9 buggies we got our hands on in our latest Chassis Focus Index –

’27 1:10 Offroad Worlds open to bids as FAMAR declines turn to host

With the dust just about settled on a very memorable IFMAR 1:10 Offroad World Championship at Hills RC Off Road track in Australia, the host nation & venue of the 2027 Worlds has been opened right up after the FAMAR Bloc has declined its turn to host the race.  Under the normal, often criticised, Bloc rotation it was the South American governing body’s turn to award the championships to one of its member countries.  Given FAMAR’s recent history with World Championships and the fact 1:10 Offroad is not a popular category in the region, it was always expected that it would decline hosting.  This would normally mean it would go back to the last host Bloc, in this case FEMCA.  This was what we experienced with the 2024 1:8 Offroad Worlds when Brazil cancelled and it returned to EFRA with Redovan in Spain stepping up as a late replacement venue – the first track to host back to back World ChampionshipsLast year’s 200mm Worlds was also cancelled and returned to FEMCA with Huge RC in Thailand hosting that race.  With FAMAR pulling out it was widely believed the impressive new Hongyu GDC multi track facility in China, which hosts next year’s ISTC Worlds would step, however at a meeting during the running of the Offroad Worlds in Sydney it was agreed that once FAMAR confirmed their position, that the event would be offered to the other 3 Blocs – FEMCA, EFRA and ROAR which represents North America.  Each Bloc will put forward one track each as their selection to IFMAR who will then make the decision which of the three is selected for the 21st running of the 1:10 Offroad Worlds.  With the host of the next Worlds usually announced during the running of the current Worlds, it is expected that the announcement will come within weeks.  At the recent 1:8 GT World Championships at the excellent Club de Aeromodelos de Chile track in Santiago there was also no announcement of the next host however with it going to the EFRA Bloc it is understood Italy, Spain and Switzerland have submitted potential host tracks.
