Euro Touring Series – Round 2

Euro Touring Series - Round 2

After a successful opening round in Kastellaun, the next round of the Xenon Racing backed Euro Touring Series moves on to the beautiful city of Budapest in Hungary on November 27/28. Making its first appearance on the ETS calendar last season, the race produced one of champion elect Jilles Groskamp’s greatest passing maneuvers as he overtook Toni Rheinard on the last corner of the last lap of the third leg of the A-Main to secure the overall victory. Like the season opener, there will be a strong line-up of team drivers making the trip to the Dabas-Diego Sports Centre. Heading that entry is championship leader Viktor Wilck, who will be joined by his World Champion Tamiya team mate Marc Rheinard. Xray will be in attendance with Martin Hudy, who finished the event on the podium last year, and their young charger Elliot Harper. Associated will be armed with Juho Levanen who showed very strongly with his TC5R in Kastellaun, qualifying third on the grid with a TQ run in Q3. 2006 World Champion Andy Moore is also confirmed.

For more information about the event and where it takes place go to the Series page on the ETS site here.

LRP Islikon Masters – Stock report

Michael Koch wins Stock at LRP Islikon Masters

The LRP Islikon Masters took place last weekend in Switzerland. The stock class saw TOP Photon driver Stephan Helbach take the TQ spot ahead of Xray racer Michael Koch in 2nd and another TOP, that of Florian Hauser, taking 3rd spot. The first final saw a good start for the pole man but he made a mistake further into the race and this allowed Michael to pass him and take the win. Making up for the mistake in the first leg, Stephan led from pole position and with no mistakes could take the win. This set up a showdown for the overall win in the 3rd leg and while Stephan got away cleanly, Michael was able to make the pass and could take the win and along with it the overall victory, with Stephan settling for 2nd, while Michel Grosjean took the 3rd spot. Florian Hauser made a very good race, was very fast but some mistakes cost him a secure 3rd position but he was able to secure the Junior title with 4th place.

Wayne Joelson is South African Champion

Wayne Joelson is South African Champion

We received word from Wayne Joelson that he is the South African Driver’s Champion for 2009. The combination of Mugen Seiki MRX4X, Novarossi Flash .21 and Matrix Tires ensured Wayne won all three National events of the year in the famous Grand Prix city of East London, the coastal city of Durban & the final race in Johannesburg. Wayne was also victorious at the recent international event, The African Cup, held near the capital city of Pretoria. The 1 hour final is the longest and most grueling race in Africa, a race Wayne also won in 2007 & 2008. To complete a great year Wayne also represented South Africa at the IFMAR World Championship held in Lostallo, Switzerland. A 6th place position in the Quarter Finals resulted in 32nd place overall.
