Dmitriy Chub wins Rd1 Ukraine Champs

The first round of the Ukrainian Championships took place recently at an indoor track in Nikopol. The race was open to both touring car and buggies and in both it was LRP team driver Dmitriy Chub that took the win. Racing a Tamiya chassis in each class, he TQ’d the touring class and won ahead of team mate Nikita Dimbitskiy, with Xray driver Anton Buga in 3rd. In the buggy class, it was Evgen Brajko that was quickest in the qualifying session, but he dropped to 3rd by the end of the final behind 2nd placed Andriy Boyko, while Chub managed to work his way to the front and take the win.

Schumacher Indoor Masters Rd6

oOple have a report from last weekends sixth round of the Schumacher Indoor Off Road Masters, held at the indoor track in Worksop. With the ‘National Indoor Finals’ held at the save venue in a months time – it was a chance for drivers to get some practice in before that event, so there were 12 heats in total. The 4wd class saw the win go to the Richard Lowe driving the JConcepts BJ4 WE, who had qualified 2nd behind X-Factory racer Ellis Stafford, while in 2wd the victory went to pole man Mark Stanley racing a Losi. Contained within the same report, is a review of the new range of TrakPower hard cased LiPo packs.

Olly Jefferies wins Carpet Wars World Cup

Last weekend saw the running of the Carpet Wars World Cup, a 2 day event that saw International interest with Marc Fisher making the trip from Germany for the race. After Saturdays qualifying it was Kevin Brunsden on pole but a quick run in the final qualifying heat on Sunday saw Olly Jefferies take the top spot by 0.6 of a second. Leg 1 of the finals saw some problems for the front runners and this allowed Glen Doman through for the win ahead of Elliot Harper, with Olly recovering to 3rd. The 2nd leg was better for Olly, taking the lead from the start and converting it into the win in front of Harper and Doman, while the final leg was again won by Olly, who took the overall win, in front of Elliot in 2nd who claimed the overall runner up spot and Glen coming home in 3rd overall.

Charalambous wins Cyprus NC Rd2

Serpent are reporting that their team in Cyprus concluded another almost perfect weekend in during Round 2 of the Cyprus Nitro Challenge as the ‘Dream Team’ completed a 1-2 finish in the A-final. This time it was new signing, Andreas Charalambous’ turn to take the victory only seconds ahead of reigning Champion and team mate Nicholas Ζachariades. The two Serpent 960 drivers led the race throughout, after qualifying on the front row of the A Final grid. Both drivers pulled away from the rest of the pack right from the start of the race and battled each other for the win.

Puerto Rico National Championship Rd2

The 2nd round of the Puerto Rico National Championships was run last weekend at the country’s Isabela Track. Qualifying in 1/8th scale went the way of round 1 winner and Mugen racer Andy Báez and he carried forward that form to the final, taking an easy win ahead of the Kyosho pairing of Ito Nieves and Fernando Méndez. In the 1/10th 200mm class, the pole position went to Serpent racer Alfred Aeschliman but he had bad luck in the final and this enabled the Mugen driver Juan “My Bad” Rodríguez into the lead from where he could take the win. Just behind a recovering Andy Báez came up behind Serpent racer Edgar Tirado and with 3 minutes to go in the 45 minute final, was able to take the 2nd position from him.

Teemu Leino wins 2008 TITC

Seen as the warm up race for the World Championship held on the same track in November, this years running of the TITC in Thailand was very well attended by factory teams from around the World. Run on a tight smooth circuit under warm conditions, qualifying saw Xray racer Teemu Leino set down the fastest runs to take the top qualifier spot with 3 round wins in front of former World Champion Atsushi Hara in 2nd and current European Champion Ronald Volker in 3rd, both racing the Hot Bodies Cyclone. The finals were easy for Teemu, who could win the first 2 to claim the overall win with 1 final left to be run. With Teemu sitting out the 3rd run, this allowed Andy Moore to take the leg 3 win, which combined with his 2nd spot from leg 1 gave him 2nd overall in front of Ronald Volker in 3rd.

Cavalieri sweeps the Dirt Nitro Challenge

Team Orion racer Ryan Cavalieri has dominated the 9th running of the Dirt Nitro Challenge in Arizona winning both the buggy and truggy classes, but in qualifying it was Team Losi racer Adam Drake, using the new GRP motor that TQ’d in both classes. In the truggy final it was Ryan Lutz that took the early lead and looked like he would take the win, but a rear differential problem saw him drop out and this leaving James on his roof which meant he had to settle for 3rd. The buggy class final saw and early lead for the Drake who was followed by O’Donnell racer Jared Tebo, with Mike Truhe and Ryan Cavalieri catching. Two thirds of the way into the race Truhe had managed to gain a lead of 6 seconds from Cavalieri who was closing and with 1 minute to go he made the pass and was able take the win, by just over 1 tenth of a second in front of Truhe with Adam Drake taking 3rd.
