Alabama Manufacturers Shootout 10.0 – Report

The annual Alabama Manufacturers Shootout was held in Cullman, Alabama last weekend. Widely known by the acronym, AMS, is an indoor race that’s like no other due to the smooth surface and 1/10th clay like grip. With nationals just around the corner, the AMS10 was a perfect warm-up race for many traveling pros and great racers alike. The split practice schedule was probably the most talked about topic of the week as the split practices allowed some drivers to practice on Thursday while the remaining group was able to get on the track late Thursday and half of Friday. There are definitely positives to doing either, but most of the pros opted to run the 2nd practice that allowed them to tune for more race-like conditions. One qualifier ran on Friday evening with the final two qualifiers on Saturday followed by lower mains to decide bump ups. Ten cars went directly in the main while five cars bumped from the lower mains which made racing purposeful and exciting up and down the field.

Björn Christiansen wins Club Racing Series Rd5

Round 5 of the Northern Germany based Club Racing Series was hosted by the MACH track in Hamburg last weekend. Held as part of the MACH’s open club series the CRS saw the running of the sole Plastic Cars class, a category targeting “tub” chassis touring cars such as the Yokomo SD Sports, the Team Associated TC4 Club Racer or Tamiya tub chassis cars. Hand-out ETS Muchmore motors, a mandatory 1:6.5 gearing and a single set of Volante 28R Hybrid tyres make for a level playing field that was lead by Yokomo’s Björn Christiansen. The avid stock racer dominated both the 8-minute qualifiers and triple 10-minute A-main finals at will, leaving behind veteran racer Sebastian Sürstedt whose 20-years old Team Associated TC3 Factory Team once again came out of retirement for an undefeated 2nd overall position. Modified specialist, MACH’s Christian Stolze (Yokomo) had to cope with the somewhat low speeds of the Plastic Cars in general and of his rental Yokomo SD Sports in particular but he ultimately snatched the final podium spot from MACH’s, Zeljko Garai (Yokomo) in 4th.
