Following a lot of rumours on social media Tekno have finally announced the signing of Jared Tebo to their factory team. Not only is Jared regarded as one of the best drivers in the world, but as a former world champion he brings a wealth of experience to the team. Jared will be racing as well as assisting in the setup and development of Tekno’s entire lineup of 1/8th and 1/10th vehicles. The former long-time Kyosho driver had the following to say:

I am beyond excited to be joining the Tekno family for 2019 and 2020! I’ve noticed the growth in customers and the great track presence that they’ve had, and that’s something I wanted to be a part of. Daniel and Matt attend a lot of races, and you can see the passion they have for RC cars and the industry. Tekno has taken a different approach with their brand, and they strive to create innovative products with great performance. I can’t wait to race the cars and share my input of 18 years professional racing experience. I think the combined results together are going to be great, and the experience will be exciting. I will be racing the full 1/8 NP, 1/8 EP, and 1/10 EP line of vehicles! I want to say THANK YOU to Daniel, Matt, and all the Tekno staff for this opportunity. I feel very welcomed already, and I’m excited to work with and meet all my new teammates! Bring on 2019, see you all soon …

Lovan Winter Series Rd2 – Report

The second round of the Lovan Winter Series was held over the weekend just before Christmas. The club did the utmost to make a flowing but technical track on the 35x18m surface they had available. The race attracted a massive 104 entries and had the honour of being the biggest electric RC car race of 2018 in Belgium. The quality of the field was also quite high, with no less than seven national champions, four multiple national champions, three ETS/EOS A-main finalists and three European champions. Five classes were run, separated between Formula, 1/12 GT and LMP, and touring Stock and Modified. Touring Stock was the biggest class with 58 drivers, probably thanks to the liberal rules, which allowed every 13.5 motor, blinky speed controller and rubber tyres with a hardness of at least 26 shore. The race format was the same as for round 1, three free practice rounds without reseeding, four qualifiers of which the fastest one would count to determine the grid and triple finals for everyone.

Ryan Cavalieri leaves Team Associated

Multi-times IFMAR 1/10th Off-road World Champion, Ryan Cavalieri has announced his departure from long-time sponsor Team Associated. Having joined their factory team back in 2005, Ryan and AE can look back on a very fruitful campaign with Ryan adding three IFMAR Worlds and 28 ROAR national titles to his belt. Ryan has yet to announce his new team, as do high-level drivers such as Jared Tebo and Ryan Lutz, adding some spice to an otherwise pretty silent silly season. In the meantime, this is what Cav has to say about his departure.

With the year almost coming to an end I would like to announce that I will no longer be with Team Associated. Our first contract started 13 years ago when my dad and I were brought into a meeting with Brent Theilke and Cliff Lett to discuss my racing future and that’s where it all began. April 1st, 2005 I joined the ae team and a lot of people thought it was an April fools joke. This turned into something much bigger than that. I would go on to win my second World championship in August 2005 in Italy with a Jconcepts/ ae 4wd. I also top qualified my first 2wd World Championships that same year and would place runner up to Neil Cragg. Six years later in Vassa Finland, I would get my biggest accomplishment by winning 2wd and 4wd World Championship titles. My first Roar National title came in 2006 and I would go on to win a total of 28 National Championships with Team Associated. I would like to thank Brent Theilke, Cliff Lett, Richard Saxton, Kody Numandal and Sean Cochran, these guys all contributed to my racing program with many wins and podiums throughout my 13 year long career with Team Associated. With the new year approaching a new chapter is about to start. Stay tuned to hear what’s next.
