Ty Tessmann wins at Grass Roots Series opener

The opening round of the Grass Roots Series was held at Thunder Alley RC Raceway in Beaumont, California. With 148 entries for the 1-day race, this was the first time in a while that the Californians could get on a track to race due to the rain they had. It was a lot of fun, lots of big jumps and a technical layout. The track started out with some muddy spots and remained wet throughout the day, due to the moisture in the track it developed a lot of ruts and bumps so at times it was difficult to navigate. Qualifying went well for newly signed Xray driver Ty Tessmann, he managed to TQ both rounds over Drew Moller (Mugen) who qualified second and Cody King who qualified third.  In the main Drew Moller starting from the second position would challenge Ty throughout the race, at one point Tessmann would make a mistake allowing Moller to get by and then the latter would make a mistake giving Ty back the lead. The first fuel stop both came in together, on the second fuel stop Ty was approaching lapped traffic so his Gord called him in a bit earlier giving Drew the lead for a lap. On the next lap Moller pitted and Ty regained the lead and was able to create a gap, and ultimately went on to take the win from Drew Moller in second and Shawn Kirkman (Tekno) in third.

Invites were sent out based on 2016 race results and racers came from all around the country. In addition, Open classes were offered to allow all racers to vie for direct spots into the 2018 Invitational. Around 140 entries were received in total and the track copped over 9000 laps over the course of the weekend. No laps were allowed on the new layout until midday Friday, however a rainstorm meant a very muddy start to the event.  The summer sun and traffic soon grooved up the track, with perfect weather on Saturday and Sunday.

Kosciuszek & Borkowicz win at Spring Super Cup Rd1

The opening round of the Spring Super Cup Series kicked off the year with nearly 220 entries from all over Florida and the east coast in attendance for Florida’s first major race on astroturf. The weekend started off with some unscheduled rain on Friday, but luckily for the racers, round 1 was held at the massively covered Beachline Raceway in Cocoa Beach. After Saturday morning practice, racers had one qualifying round that started at 12:30pm and another round on Sunday morning. Typically, the Super Cup is a one-day affair and with only two qualifiers using both rounds to determine your overall starting position, every round of qualifying is important to make it into the A-mains. The racing was exciting and everyone got to experience a new type of racing on the astroturf. There is definitely a learning curve to running on the high grip astro, but most took it in strides and had a great time. In 2WD Modified, Florida native and local superstar Daimon Borkowicz (Team Associated) was able to TQ over teammates, Alex Kosciuszek, Paul Wynn, JR Mitch, and Jason Ruona. Unfortunately for Borkowicz, he had a poor start in the main only to battle back to regain 2nd. Taking full advantage of Borkowicz’s poor start, Alex Kosciuszek (Team Associated) would run away from the field and take the win on his first trip to Florida. Rounding out the top 3 was AE’s Paul Wynn.
