2019 JConcepts Winter Indoor Shootout – Report

The 2019 JConcepts Winter Indoor Shootout and Invitational was held at Fastlane Raceway in Blue Springs, Missouri last weekend. This special race showcases some of the best midwest racers from the area to compete in a Reedy style format that is all about racing. With five rounds of 2WD and five rounds of 4WD counting the best four of five rounds from each class to calculate the best overall driver of the event, the winner is crowned by driver consistency and speed. It’s not about one heat, qualifier, or single main performance, but the eventual winner is the complete package; the real deal. The “Shootout” portion of the race used the traditional four rounds of qualifying taking the best two rounds to sort the mains. Each A-Main also ran an extended single 8-minute main to decide it’s champions among the tradition popular classes.

Rebellion-RC MTC1 MM mid-motor chassis conversion kit

Coming soon from RC-Carbonstore’s Rebellion-RC brand is the MM mid-motor chassis conversion kit for the Mugen MTC1 4WD electric touring car. The main feature of the upgrade set is the patent pending sliding motor mount design that allows gear mesh adjustment through the chassis bottom, with the narrow design of the whole assembly ensuring the overall motor and battery width remains the same as in the “rear motor” standard car, creating a very centralised weight distribution and less unwanted chassis roll compared to current mid motor conversions. In addition the design makes for an ultra low centre of gravity while allowing integrated flex settings via up to seven motor mount screws. The sliding design also ensures a very wide gear mesh adjustment range, fitting up to 48T pinion and 114T main gears, making the conversion ideal for both stock and modified racing. The final specification of the kit now also incorporates several chassis stiffness adjustment areas that allow to brace the upper and lower deck in front of the rear bulkhead, and in front of the centre shaft – allowing to access complex chassis flex settings. Included are also precision 3-D-printed and machined 38T spool and gear diff pulleys that make for an internal 1.9 gear ratio. The kit is available with a standard carbon fibre, a standard aluminium or a CrossFlex aluminium main chassis. The latter two feature a black hard-anodised and laser etched surface finish but not the shiny silver alloy prototype chassis visible in the images. Included with the kit, that is completely made in Austria, also come high-quality Bando Kevlar belts as well as all needed screws and bearings. Not included however is the necessary Xray off-set main gear. The kits will become available early to mid-December.

Kyosho MP10T hard composite lower arms

Kyosho have introduced their new hard composite lower arms for the MP10T 1/8th scale truggy. Moulded from a harder-than-stock material the arms come in handy especially when running in high ambient temperatures or when racing in high to very high bite track conditions. Using the harder arms results in more precise handling as they do not flex as much as the standard kit arms, however they can take away some overall traction and stability in colder conditions. The arms come as separate pairs for the front and the rear of the truck.
