Joe Bornhorst takes maiden ROAR National title

This year’s ROAR 1/8th Electric Nationals race was held at the HobbyTown Hobbyplex indoor track in Omaha, Nebraska. Practice started on Thursday morning and with a little bit of a light turnout everyone was getting a lot of track time. Friday would be two seeding rounds and then two qualifiers and in 1/10th 4WD Short Course it was Tekno RC’s Joe Bornhorst with the overnight TQ following two round wins. Saturday saw four more qualifiers but Joe missed to get some runs together, allowing Tekno RC’s Ryan Lutz and TLR’s Tanner Denney score TQs. Going into the last round, basically whoever won would take overall TQ. Fortunately for Joe he had his head on straight and put a solid run together to take the round and overall TQ for the class. Sunday was main day and in A1 Joe brought home the win despite being chased by a storming Ryan Lutz. This time Lutz wanted to grab the lead early and went for a move but tagged Joe and spun him around. He waited and that handed Denney the lead, Joe 2nd and Lutz 3rd. Denney made a mistake a few laps later giving Bornhorst back the lead. Then he made another mistake a few laps later but was able to hold onto the lead with Lutz right behind him. Then Lutz made a couple mistakes allowing Joe to sneak away and bring home the A2 win and with it his first National Championship. Ryan Lutz would take the vice-championship from Tanner Denney 3rd.
