IFMAR World Cup 1:8 Electric Buggy – Announcement

IFMAR has announced details of the first ever World Cup for 1:8 Electric Buggy.  While 1:8 nitro has enjoyed World Championship status since 1986, the World Cup will be the first step for the electric category to become a World Championship category in 2025.  The World Cup event will take place on September 22-24 and be hosted by the Club ACDB “OS BEIROES” at their 310m track in Guarda, Portugal.   The track previously hosted the 2010 EFRA European 1:8 Nitro Buggy Championship when Reno Savoya took the third of his European titles.  While taking place only one week after the 1:10 Offroad World Championships at Hobby Action in the USA, the 1:8 Electric Buggy World Cup is still expected to be well supported by the industry given the growing future importance of the category.  View Stage 1 report here.

MIBO Electric Screwdriver

MIBO has added this Electric Screwdriver to its range of products as a handy tool to make assembling and disassembling RC car components quick and easy.  It is compact and lightweight, which combined with a non-slip rubber grip results in really effortless handling.  Forward and reverse buttons control a powerful electric motor, that provides consistent torque to drive screws into any material, including hard plastic, with precision and speed.  Powerful neutral brake lets you tighten the screws manually to adjust the torque by feel, rather than by digital torque control. This also helps you loosen any stubborn screw, that needs a lot of force to come out.  3.6V 900mAh Li-Ion battery allows for extended use without the need for battery replacement. Its capacity is enough for many hours of common work, then it can be charged via included micro USB cable within 60 minutes.  The screwdriver has a 6.35mm quick-release chuck, compatible with all kinds of bits that are suitable for different types of screws used in RC cars and elsewhere.  The supplied MIBO tips are made of hard steel with a titanium coating with 1.5mm, 2.0mm, 5.5mm and 7.0mm bits available.  The screwdriver body also contains a small LED worklight, that helps the visibility in tight spots.

JConcepts Kosmos & Sprinter SCT Aqua A2 compound

JConcepts is now offering their Kosmos and Sprinter SCT tyres in its Aqua A2 compound.  Starting with a clean shape and carcass, for the Kosmos the design team took to a rectangular based pin which has the forward bite muscle to boost a 1:8 buggy.  The staggered rows create a unique zig/zag affect at certain views giving it a 3D mind puzzle affect. In fact, the design is 4 rows deep of off-set and staggered sections when compared to some traditional tires which rely on 2.  The Sprinter tyre is designed to bridge a gap between the popular Double Dees and other pin tire options from JConcepts.  It has square, angled pins that are stacked vertically to flex and fold evenly across the tyre.  Typically, a stacked tread will wear less and provide more forward bite while the aligned space helps rotation in the turns and gives a snappy release to square up quickly.  Starting with the new tread, the team focused on durability and performance to bring a tyre option to market that competes on loose surfaces which are wet or dusty.

Factory Team B6.1 Carbon Laydown Gearbox and Chassis Braces

New from Factory Team is this RC10B6.1 Carbon Laydown Gearbox and Chassis Braces set.  The carbon material offered by Factory Team has become a popular upgrade for many parts across the Team Associated line of race cars. Adding rigidity to suspension components and limiting chassis flex is a great tuning option for race cars.  The carbon laydown gearbox and chassis braces reduce the flex in the rear of the chassis, resulting in a more consistent and precise feel on track.  This set is a direct replacement for the original kit parts.

Ceseña wins 2023 Mexican Offroad Nationals opener

Last weekend, the first round of the Mexican 1:8 Off Road National Championship was held in the beautiful city of Los Cabos, BCS where Mayako driver Jose “Tito” Ceseña took the win.  Drivers from all over Mexico and the US showed up for the opening round of the 2023 season.  In qualifying it was Luis Gudiño who was the Top Qualifier topping 2 of the 3 rounds with Ceseña topping Q2.   Qualifying directly into the Semi Finals HobbyShop.MX’s star driver Ceseña faced some electrical gremlins that forced him to retire from the race.  This meant that the Last Chance Qualifier Race was the only way to make it to the A Main.  Ceseña led from start to finish and secured the last spot in the 60-minute-long main final. Starting 13th on the grid, the Mayako driver was able to push forward his Energy Fuel powered car to the top 3 by lap 7. Here is where the real battle started with Sworkz team drivers Diego Marroquin and Gudiño. Strategy played a huge role during the race too. Mayako Mexico Team Manager Daniel Ornelas, performed lighting fast pits stops with Tito’s wife Dani, that helped close the gap to the lead drivers. Ceseña continued to push placing fast lap after fast lap.  After 65 laps Ceseña was able to dispose of both Sworkz Mexico drivers to secure the first win of the season for the Mayako/HobbyShop.MX team.  Marroquin and Mark Morrow completed the podium.  Next round will be held in Guadalajara at the new Huecos Track in May.

JConcepts Drop Step rear & Pin Swag 4WD front tyres

JConcepts has added two new additions to its extensive 1:10 Buggy tyre range, the Drop Step 2.2″ rear tire and the Pin Swag, 2.2″ 4WD front tyre.  The Drop Step is a step pin type tyre but with large hexagon shaped base features doubled up and offset to create more edges and surfaces to bite and grip in deep conditions.  Long pins extend off the hex designs and reach into the depths of racing surfaces. The drafted pin angle has a stout base and increases flexibility near the peak for delicate bite.  Designed in the industry standard 2.2” bead mounting size, the Drop Step is very versatile and has shown to work in many artificial conditions.  The Pin Swag tire combines the outer lugs of a JConcepts Swagger front tire with the dense arrangement of specialty pins.  Now optimised as a 4WD front tyre, the pins themselves are round and crisp to the top where they climax to a point.  Near the sidewall, the Swag enters with a smooth transition and drops off to a ledge giving steering control.  The Swag is split down the centre to give a little individual control to contort to surfaces. In between, a stagger section with angular front is placed just behind a vertical rib to complete the design.  The tight spacing of the Pin and Swag bite together and minimise wear across the carcass.
