1up Cup Series Round 2 – Report

Round 2 of the 2025 1up Cup Series was held at BWS Raceway in Perris, California, a unique, high-grip covered asphalt track on the grounds of world-famous “The Dirt” nitro offroad track.  In the premiere Mod TC class, Round 1 Winner Jacob Cruz (Mugen) ran into some bad luck in both Q1 and Q2, relegating him to the B-Main. Serpent’s Bryce Butterfield took advantage to grab the TQ Spot, which he converted into the overall win after some great battles with Ryan Cavalieri (1up) and Lex Tyler (Awesomatix).  Spec Touring Car was the Lex Tyler (Awesomatix) show all weekend long.  He dominated all rounds of qualifying and swept the mains ahead of the Schumacher’s of Erik Steenhoven and Charlie Albrecht.  In USGT, Oliver Clipper made some sweet passes to take the overall win over Ken Gerberding (ARC) and Carlos Duarte (Tamiya).  FWD saw Gary Tsai (Xray) take a popular win at his home track, ahead of Joey Abbica (Frankencar) and Ken Gerberding (ARC).  F1 was an entertaining display by Mike Rydwell (Exotek, duh), who missed most of qualifying but put on a driving clinic from the back of the pack to take the overall win. Kevin “Panda” Cole (Roche) and Round 1 winner Dave Constant (Exotex rounded out the podium.  Nick “Candyman” Pantana took the win in with his Awesomatix ride in VTA ahead of Chris Krein (Yokomo) and Peter Carris (ARC).  The “Candyman” doubled up with a 2nd win in SuperGT (Tamiya Tub Chassis Only), with 3 different winners in 3 mains! Jonah Gallant and Jose Navarro took 2nd and 3rd.  Round 3 of the 1up Cup Series rolls off May 16-18 at CenCal Speedway in Fresno, CA

Xray has unveiled its latest 1:8 Electric 4WD pan car, the X8’26.  A category the Slovakian manufacturer only entered into in 2024, the latest kit features a revamped chassis design which positions the batteries directly on the chassis for the lowest centre of gravity.  The car also has an extended wheelbase which improves the vehicle’s handling characteristics.  It also gets updated independent front suspension with a system of bushings and rubber O-rings to adjust suspension flex.  The rear suspension is also mounted to the chassis with adjustable flex for enhanced performance.  The motor is positioned as far back as possible, just in front of the rear suspension.  The kit comes with a new 35T Aluminium Pulley which allows for the use of larger front tires, enhancing traction on bumpy tracks and improving steering responsiveness.  Another new part is the One-Way Front Axle which comes with a hard-coated one-way that improves performance.
