Clean sweep for Bruno Coelho in Portugal

Last weekend saw the last round of the Portuguese gas on road nationals at the Vila Real track where the European championships will be held next year. The race was all about Bruno Coelho, having found a good setup in Saturday’s practice session, he went on to TQ both the 1/8th and 1/10th scale class. In the 1/8th final he would go on to win with his Novarossi powered Mugen by 8 laps over José Felix in 2nd with José Pequito in 3rd. In the 1/10th class it was an equally dominant win for Bruno, taking his Mugen to the win by 4 laps over 2nd placed Fabio Romas with Antonio Silva in 3rd. The wins in both classes was enough to give Bruno the 2011 National titles in both 1/8th and 1/10th.

Shepherd V8 low friction kevlar pulleys

Shepherd V8 low friction kevlar pulleys

Shepherd are happy to introduce their new low friction kevlar pulleys for the Velox V8. After extensive testing a material was found that fullfills their high expectations regarding quality and durability. Oliver Mack drove more than 150 kilometers with one set of kevlar pulleys at the Euros A in Luxembourg when he ended up in 5th position after bumping up three times and the pulleys still looked great. These low friction pulleys provide a better and smoother rotation of the drivetrain to improve the acceleration of the V8 and are available for all pulleys, except for the rear solid axle, as a complete set or separately.

Belgian Steven Cuypers is German 1/8 Champion

Bad-Breisig-DM-VG8-110911-UB-013

Steven Cuypers is the new German Champion 1/8 scale nitro. The Belgian took the title with a blistering performance during qualifying on Saturday when he caught pole position. But the German Nationals, held at the Motodrom Rhein-Ahr 25 kilometres south of former capital Bonn, was aborted on Sunday afternoon because of heavy thunderstorms in this area. Neither the semi finals nor the final were raced in class 1 which left the competition with an unusual result. Obviously 1/8 racing in Germany seems to be star-crossed because although the German Nationals 2009 in Hildesheim and 2010 in Roetz were affected by rain. This time the one-event German Championship was hampered by rain on all four days. On Thursday and Friday only five of ten practice rounds were run on a dry track. Also the first of five rounds of qualification was lost due to a wet track. And on Sunday rain came back about noon, followed by fearsome thunderbolts.

Marco Müller is Swiss 1/8th Champion

Marco Müller is Swiss 1/8th Champion

The last round of the Swiss national championship took place one week ago in Langenthal. Before the race three drivers could still win the championship with worlds and euros finalist Simon Kurzbuch having the best chances on his home track followed by Marco Müller and Mattia Pesenti in the ranking list. In Qualifying it was local hero Kurzbuch who dominated his rivals being the only driver clocking 34 laps in 7:10.843 in front of Silvio Hächler (33 laps 7:06.574) and Müller on 3rd place (33 laps 7:10.355). Unfortunately it started to rain during the semifinals and for the rest of the race the track was extremely wet.

Eytard wins in France, Concialdi takes title

Eytard wins in France, Concialdi takes title

The fifth and final round of the French 1/10th scale 200mm Nationals took place in Grenoble last weekend. In the Elite class it was Xray driver Thomas Eytard that took the top qualifier spot ahead of Capricorn driver Basile Concialdi in 2nd and KM racer Frederic Bourrillon in 3rd. In the main final Frederic Bourrillon with the KM H-K1 was very fast with a different tire strategy but unfortunately he hit a crashed car in front of him and broke the steering rod while leading. The very young Léo Arnold (Capricorn/Orion/Matrix) had a fantastic race with a great battle for the lead with Thomas Eytard for almost half of the race. Unfortunately Léo had to stop 45 seconds before the end of the race after he stripped a gear. In the end it was Thomas Eytard (Xray/RB) who took the win with Michael Derderian (Xray/RB) in 2nd and Basile Concialdi (Capricorn/Orion) in 3rd, who is also the new French Champion for 2011.

Thomas Stockman wins Belgian finale

Thomas Stockman wins Belgian finale

Last weekend was the final round of the Belgian electric Touring car championships held at the lovely track of MRCL next to the airport of Bierset. On Saturday’s practice day it was beautiful weather, 30 degrees and more and everybody was trying hard to find the best setup. But on Sunday it was raining cats and dogs and it was not looking good for the rest of the day. The EFRA guys were still fast on the slippery track with all the water. Thomas Stockman wanted to win a race this year and this was his last chance. Thomas was going fast and took the pole in front of Nick Joosens and surprising Jonathan Prouvosq as third. Rico Claeys took fourth in front of Manuel Henriet.

Corally HMX touring car prototype

Corally HMX touring car prototype

Dutch company Corally are showing of their latest touring car prototype called the HMX. Due for release in October there are no details available yet for the car other than the final version will differ slightly to the one shown in the image. But looking at the photo the stand out feature is the aluminium shock towers that see the tops of the shocks mounted on the ends using a ball joint, presumably allowing the angle to be adjusted using shims placed under the ball. More information as we get it.
