Xray Racing Series Austria – Report

The MRC Wr. Neustadt club played host to the Xray Racing Series Austria this past weekend. The event started off windy and in changing weather conditions on Saturday but this did not keep the 30 drivers from enjoying a full day of practice that was highlighted by racing under floodlights on Saturday evening. Sunday started off wet but after prepping the track everyone was good to go for the first round of qualifiers and in the Touring Modified class it was Patrick Gollner who swept the qualifiers with three round TQs. In the A-main it was Dominik Vogl who held the upper hand on newer tyres with Patrick Gollner coming in 2nd and Sascha Klug rounding out the podium result in 3rd.

Jokerteam GT12 Championship Rd6 – Report

With round 5 of the 2017 Jokerteam GT12 Championship, initially scheduled for July 2nd, postponed to September 24th, round 6 kicked off regularly in sunny and hot conditions. As the qualification rounds got under way, it was a very close race between the top 2 across qualifying with both Mattia Dall’Oca and Ivan Milesi being the only drivers to score 27 lap runs. With the track conditions getting hotter, drivers found it hard to find the best set-up as well as tyre compound. Dall’Oca continued his good form from previous rounds of the Championship, taking pole position from Ivan Milesi and Alessandro Rampini. It was then a fierce battle among the top three qualifiers in the A-mains. In A1 Mattia Dall’Oca hit troubles allowing both Ivan Milesi and Alessandro Rampini to take 1st and 2nd with solid runs. In A2 Mattia delivered a faultless drive closely followed by Ivan and Alessandro Rampini. Finally, in the deciding A3, it was Ivan Milesi who held it down and took the win using his experience and talent. Ivan would capitalise on Mattia’s early mistake and never looked back, while Alessandro Rampini finished strong and wrapped up 3rd. A change in the Championship’s calendar will now see round 7 (initially scheduled for August 27th) postponed to October 8th in order to avoid conflict with the recently announced 2017 Italian UISP Championship which, for the first time in Italy, will include the GT12 class.

Eventful A1 allows Wang to take easy win

Following the final two qualifiers in the morning, the finals at RCI V2 in Shanghai finally got underway. In the opening modified class A-main TQ driver JJ Wang pulled away right from the start and was able to quickly build up a large lead while the rest of the field had a rough start following an early coming together. In the end the Xray factory driver cruised to the win ahead of Serpent team driver Felix Law, who following a tough battle emerged in 2nd place while under huge pressure from Nicholas Lee, managing to hold off the Singaporean driver by 0.5 seconds at the end. Just behind the ‘unlucky’ Yokomo driver, Rocket Zhang finished the final just 0.38 seconds back and took 4th position, the gap from 2nd to 4th being covered by less than a second at the end of the 5 minute run. Young Xray driver Lao Min Hao held 2nd position early in the race but fell back to end the race behind Motor King in 6th.
