Team Orion got in touch to tell us about their latest addition to the R10 line of 1/10 scale speed controllers. Based on the the 4-times US National Champion R10 Pro the Swiss company introduces the R10 Race 2-3S Club Racing speed controller. The speedo, that is ideal for the zero degrees fixied timing class, features the same aluminium case as the Pro offerings, the Race offers the possibility to use LiPo batteries up to 3S with a 10.5T motor limit, 5.75V/3A linear mode BEC and on-board programming of various parameters like drive mode, punch, brake and low-voltage adjustments via the on/off switch. Using the optional DSB-R programming box gives additional access to boost and turbo programmes. Martin Sørlie does double at Norwegian Nats

Martin Sørlie does double at Norwegian Nats

Last weekend saw the Norwegian Championships in 2wd and 4wd buggy held in IMSK-RC’s fabulous track in Torbustaden, Levanger. 2wd was held on Saturday, with sunny weather and perfect conditions for the 32 drivers in attendance. The track consists of high grip astro turf, with both fast sweeping sections and more tight technical turns, and making an error free run would not be easy. In the qualifiers, Andreas Daving showed great pace with his AE B4, and managed a brilliant TQ-time, 2nd qualifier was local hero Roy Gjemble running impressively fast with a rear motored TLR 22, and 3rd was Martin Sørlie running the usually more astro friendly mid-motored TLR 22.

Evans, Tebo, Maifield and Phend win at Nationals

IMG_0104

Finals day at the 2011 ROAR Nationals at Norcal Hobbies in California saw Top qualifier, Jared Tebo, made a very uncharacteristic mistake on the first lap of A1 in 4wd Modified Buggy. The Ryans made their way by with 4wd worlds TQ Ryan Maifield taking point. The teammates would tangle through the rhythm section, Cavalieri comes out ahead and they allow the Kyosho of Tebo to rejoin the battle for the lead. Maifield would retire early with electronics issues. Working his way up from the 6th position, Team Associated’s Steven Hartson capitalized on a crash by Tebo to pull into the 2nd position right behind leader, Cavalieri. Cavalieri would hold on to win, Hartson 2nd and top qualifier, Tebo 3rd.

Tebo, Evans, Lutz & Cavalieri secure Nationals top spots

Brian Kinwald

The legend, Brian Kinwald topped his 4th overall finish from Q3 with a TQ in round 4. Brian said he switched to a blue compound JConcepts tire this morning that made his Factory Team SC-10 handle much better. Clearly it was magic because Dirt will now sit 2nd on the grid for the mains just behind teammate Ryan Maifield. Kyosho’s youngster, Andy Dibrino drove his truck to a 2nd place finish putting him securely in the main. Travis Amezcua rounded out the top three for the fourth and final round of qualifying.

Maifield clinches 2wd SC TQ at ROAR nats

Ryan Maifield SC10 TQ

Ryan Maifield clinches TQ in 2wd Short Course Modified with his 3rd consecutive qualifying round win.  When I spoke with Ryan after his run he said no changes have been made to his truck. In fact, he is running the same setup from the Cactus Classic. His Factory Team SC-10 will be starting first on the grid for the triple A-mains and in perfect position to defend his title. The Anza Slash of Travis Amezcua had it’s best finish, second for the round, giving him a 2 and 3 for his top finishes. Third place for the round goes to TLR’s Dustin Evans. Dustin said he is “throwing the book” at his XXX-SCT to try and make it easier to drive in Q4.
