Asian Onroad Championships Rd4 – Report

Asian Onroad Championships Rd4 – Report

Round four of the 2016 Asian Onroad Championships was held at PYC Raceway in Hong Kong. This unique, historical event was unluckily forecasted to coincide with a level 8 typhoon that would shut down most of the Hong Kong’s working force due to high wind, rain, and flooding advisory. However, miraculously enough the racing Gods would shine upon the AOC and slid the typhoon quickly across the dense city without any major harm or damage. Racing resumed on Saturday and the thrill of the AOC was back in action. One of the biggest standout feature about PYC Raceway is the smoothness of the surface. The silky asphalt top mimicked the pleasure of driving on carpet balanced with perfect curbs that allow every driver to press hard and use the curbing without too much penalty. The layout had great flow mixed with high and medium speed corners that required a certain amount of stability to carry maximum corner speed. Although the layout was not extremely tricky, it was nice not having “luck” features or sections that would eliminate drivers from having close battles. The times were close.

Pro-Line 105mm Ultra reservoir shock absorbers

Pro-Line 105mm Ultra reservoir shock absorbers

Made for 1/10th crawlers and scale rigs are Pro-Line’s new Ultra reservoir shocks. They feature a fully functioning reservoir with a realistic divider piston and set screw for adjusting the shock rebound. The aluminium shock cap, shock body, reservoir, bottom caps, spring perch, shock end and steel shock shaft have all been CNC machined to exacting tolerances to achieve the highest quality shock imaginable and have been designed with scale realism in mind. X-Ring seals are used for both the main shaft seal and the divider piston for the smoothest and lowest friction seal possible for these 9mm bore shocks. From the top mounting hole to the bottom mounting hole the Ultra reservoir shocks measure out to be 105mm at full extended length and collapse down to 75mm for a full 30mm of shock travel. Just like Pro-Line’s popular PowerStroke shocks, the Ultra reservoir shocks feature dual rate Springs but these shocks come with an extra collar to adjust exactly where the dual rate springs transitions to single rate, similar to full scale shocks. Smaller hole pistons are also included for added tuning options. The Ultra reservoir shocks come mostly pre-built and do require oil to be installed by the user.

Pro-Line Trifecta Lite 1/8th buggy rear wing

Pro-Line Trifecta Lite 1/8th buggy rear wing

Pro-Line’s popular Trifecta 1/8th polycarbonate rear wing is soon also available in a Lite variant. The second generation wing was on show at the recent IFMAR 1/8th Gas Buggy Worlds and it is both lighter and stronger thanks to an innovative bent wicker that eliminates the need for heavy add on pieces and hardware. The three cut lines on the back of the wing are actually bend lines that have been designed to allow for easy bending of the Lexan to create a solid 1-piece wicker. This makes the back of the wing super strong while still allowing for wing flex in the event of a crash, which prevents the wing from shattering. Just like the original Trifecta, the Lite features three dimples that hang down on each side of the wing creating the golf ball aerodynamic effect that reduces drag at high speeds without affecting down force. The wing also includes the centre fin that adds more side stability to the car and increases the strength of the wing around the mounting holes. The Trifecta Lite comes pre-cut, so there is just the wicker height to be decided before mounting it to the car.
