The opening round of the BRCA 1/10th Off-road National Championship was held this past weekend at the Kiddermister multi-sufrace track in demanding weather conditions. Sunday’s 4WD competition would be held in relatively settled weather conditions and Team Associated’s Neil Cragg would take the TQ and the win in the A-mains from Yokomo’s Lee Martin while veteran racer Ellis Stafford (TLR) would round out the podium result in third. The day before the 2WD race was held in typical European month of April weather with snow fall greeting the drivers early in the morning. Protoform WCICS Rd8 – Report

Protoform WCICS Rd8 – Report

The Protoform Western Canadian Indoor Championship Series round 8 finals brought racing excitement to Canada’s beleaguered Oil capital, Calgary, and was met by the largest turnout ever for a carpet race in Alberta. Hosted by CarCar it was a great Finals race weekend. As usual, CarCar’s long time track director Jim created a layout that perfectly balanced driving skills in the tight sections, with multiple passing opportunities. In the Touring Modified class TQ, Xray’s Blake Bell would lead from the tone for the first 5 laps, when an infield touch would drop him to 2nd, and Team Associated’s Peter Toszer would take the lead. A pattern that would repeat several times during this great race, with Team Awesomatix’ Wayne Mah joining the party in the second half. The last 10 laps were nose to tail, some of the best racing all weekend, with Toszer/Bell/Mah coming across the line just a second apart.

Wang takes rocket round to TQ AOC

Wang takes rocket round to TQ AOC

JJ Wang is top qualifier in Shanghai having topped the final round in qualifying in what were quicker track conditions as heavy rain outside lowered the track temperature and increased humidity. The only driver to manage a 31 lap run all weekend, he also set a new fastest lap on his way to the top spot. Ronald Volker will start 2nd, having also improved his time despite a heavy hit against the barriers early in the race tweaked his car. Naoto Matsukura takes 3rd with a solid run that saw him break into the 9 second lap times, leap frogging a disappointed Jilles Groskamp who also made a mistake and will now start from fourth on the grid.
