4WD to be decided in 3rd Main as Neumann wins A2

sun_jornA2

Joern Neumann took a surprise win in A2 of 4WD Buggy at the DHI Cup, the 4-time reigning champion benefiting from a number of incidents involving A1 winner Bruno Coelho. Starting from the TQ, World Champion Coelho would get his landing wrong coming out of the back jump section on the first lap allowing Michal Orlowski to go to the front. The Schumacher driver would stay there for two laps but then as Coelho tried a move on the inside the pair made contact dropping both back down the order. This handed David Ronnefalk the lead but it would be brief, the HB driver making a mistake a few corners later at the table top with fourth place starter Neumann finding himself suddenly at the front. The Serpent driver would stay there despite a number of challenges, one of which came from Ronnefalk until a clearly faster Coelho tried a pass. Ronnefalk saying ‘I got taken out. I know I wasn’t fast but you don’t have to take someone out’. In the end it would be Martin Bayer who would come in second with Orlowski getting third ahead of Coelho, meaning A3 will decide the overall winner.

Tone to tone A1 win for Coelho

Tone to tone A1 win for Coelho

World Champion Bruno Coelho made light work of the opening 4WD Buggy A-Main at the DHI Cup to take an easy tone to tone win over defending champion Jörn Neumann. His first year to attend the Danish event, the Top Qualifier immediately stamped his authority on the race setting the fastest lap on lap 2 with his rivals best 2/10ths of a second off. Starting from second on the grid, the morning’s 2WD Buggy winner Michal Orlowski would complete the Top 3 after two mistakes, the second letting Neumann get by him. A driver many hoped would take the challenge to Coelho, David Ronnefalk struggled to get by Orlowski retiring just after half way when his HB D413 sheered a drive shaft.

Orlowski adds DHI Cup win to his CV

Orlowski adds DHI Cup win to his CV

14-year-old Michal Orlowski has added the DHI Cup to his impressive list of achievements, the Schumacher driver executing two perfect races to win 2WD Buggy at the Danish event. Taking an easy win in A1, Orlowski would again benefit from a first lap mistake by Top Qualifier Tom Cockerill in A2, and once in front the Pole was the class of the field. With Orlowski able to sit out A3, Cockerill would come good to win the leg from Niclas Månsson but it wasn’t enough for the 2014 winner to make the podium. With the Brit finishing 7th overall, it was Martin Bayer and the only multiple 2WD Champion Joern Neumann that would stand each side of Orlowski at the podium presentation.

Orlowski cruises to A1 win

Orlowski cruise to A1 win

Michal Orlowski cruised an easy 6-seconds win in the opening 2WD A-Main at the DHI Cup this morning. Starting from second in the grid, the Schumacher driver went to the front on the opening lap after an error by Top Qualifier Tom  Cockerill on the first run down the main straight and quickly pulled clear of the field.  Behind Orlowski the main battle for the first half of the race was between Xray’s Martin Bayer and Team Associated’s Joakim Nicolaisen with Serpent’s Joern Neumann in close pursuit. With Bayer & Nicolaisen tripping up it was Neumann who was the benefactor, the German going on to finish second 8/10ths in front of Bayer.

Coelho takes overall 4WD TQ honours at DHI Cup

Coelho takes overall 4WD TQ honours at DHI Cup

Bruno Coelho has claimed the overall TQ honours in 4WD Buggy at the DHI Cup.  The World Champion’s first time to attend the famous Danish event, the Xray driver became the Top Qualifier despite pulling a corner off his XB4 into Q4 but it was the opening lap that would decide the outcome.  Going into the fourth & final round, it was a two way battle between Coelho and David Ronnefalk for pole position, Coelho having the advantage of two TQ runs to his credit. On their first lap however both drivers would make simultaneous mistake one corner apart, Ronnefalk coming off the worst.  Recovering, having lost on 9/10ths rather than the 4 second lost by the Swede, Coelho would take up the TQ pace after 3-laps looking on target to claim the TQ in style.  However with less than a minute to go he would jump the back section wrong sending his car crashing into the side of a jump in the opposite direction and into instant retirement.  It was to make no difference however as further mistakes by Ronnefalk meant the HB driver would end up P7 with Michal Orlowski the big benefactor getting the TQ time for the round.  The result means the Schumacher driver starts 2nd in between Coelho and Ronnefalk.

Coelho & Ronnefalk set for TQ battle final qualifier

Coelho & Ronnefalk set for TQ battle final qualifier

Bruno Coelho and David Ronnefalk are set to battle it out for the overall 4WD Buggy TQ at the DHI Cup.  With Coelho taking the opening qualifier, in Q2 it was Ronnefalk who took Q2.  In the third round Ronnefalk looked to repeat until with three laps to go the HB driver would loose his rhythm as he passed Martin Bayer and crash.  Having been in hot pursuit of his rival this would allow Coelho to post a second TQ run, this time ahead of European Champion Michal Orlowski.  With defending champion Joern Neumann completing the Top 3, Ronnefalk would end up with a P6 behind Bayer and Yokomo young charger Frederik Hovgaard.  The result means now only Ronnefalk can deny World Champion Coelho from making his DHI Cup race debut as Top Qualifier, the Portuguese driver having the advantage of holding the fastest TQ time putting all the pressure on his Swedish rival for Q4.
