Exotek Exo-Five Evo5/Evo5MS chassis conversion kit

Exotek Exo-Five Evo5/Evo5MS chassis conversion kit

Exotek have introduced the Exo-Five chassis conversion kit for the Tamiya Evo5 and Evo5MS. Although a bit outdated the Evo5 is still a desirable platform for Stock and VTA racers and with the help of the Exotek conversion the car will be 2015 ready. This chassis set is designed for stock type motors and has the opening in the top plate to work correctly with the smaller spur gears and large pinions used in 13.5T to 21.5T type blinky classes and because of this, the largest spur gear that can be used must be 34mm diameter or smaller. The conversion utilises key features such as a stiffer and ultra narrow 2.25mm chassis, a redesigned motor mount that sits on the left side of the chassis to counter torque steering, and the new one piece, hard anodised spur mount/input shaft eliminates the play and vibration of the stock unit. The new hard anodised centre shaft drive cup uses a Tamiya CVD puck for reduced wear and a quieter drive line. Also included is a new 1-piece servo mount and a trick battery mounting system that accepts standard or shorty 2S LiPo battery pack. The limited edition kit is available for pre-order now.

Paolo Morganti wins at Byron Fuels Challenge

Paolo Morganti wins at Byron Fuels Challenge

The annual Byron Fuels Challenge was held at Leisure Hours Raceway in Joliet, Illinois in the the three classes of 1/8th Nitro On-road, 1/10th 200mm Sedan and 1/8th GT. The event officially kicked off on Friday but the day had to cut short due to bad weather. Qualifying got underway in a very similar format to an IFMAR race with 10 minute qualifiers, points system and one hour mains. In the opening round of the 1/8th class Paolo Morganti had a nice clean run and he was able to TQ that round by a large margin. After a heats of the second round, water started to come up making the track slippery. The track crew was trying to keep it dry but at some point it got really bad and they decided to stop. They came up with the solution to change the layout and since in the process they lost some time sorting this out, they decided to go to a 5 minute qualifying program. The interesting part was that the whole left of the track was different, with really narrow sections and chicanes – a typical EP sedan layout.

Darren Bloomfield wins at BRCA 1/8th Buggy Nats Rd3

Darren Bloomfield wins at BRCA 1/8th Buggy Nats Rd3

Round 3 of the BRCA 1/8th Nitro Buggy Nationals was recently held at the revamped Slough track near Windsor Castle. For the first time in many years, the competitors arrived at Slough to a completely new layout, rather than a tinkered one that could trace its roots back 10 years or more. The new layout offers a huge driving challenge, despite on the face of it looking quite simple. The track is very fast, but has numerous high speed sections that require extreme precision, and with some bumps thrown in the mix it meant mistakes were very easy to come by. Qualifying saw Darren Bloomfield, Elliott Boots and Neil Cragg challenging for the overall TQ, with Elliott taking it from Neil and Darren. The times over the last few rounds were very close as the drivers honed their set ups and worked on the tyre selections. Unusually for Slough the surface was very abrasive and causing high tyre wear for everybody.
